Recommended: Impact of technology in society

America has made amazing technology. People believe that technology they own should be private and disclosed only to those they want to. However, Officials should be able to use the information they obtained from private devices or social networking sites in order to protect the community. Letting officials use the information they’ve obtained through technology can help the community. Being inappropriate or rude online can commonly result in unexpected legal problems. According to Joseph Maneen, the author of the article “Watch What You Type”, Fourteen states have passed anti-cyberbullying laws, and other states are considering them. When a student is being cyberbullied by another student online, a teacher could stop it before that student gets into legal trouble. Officials can track down and find people associated with a criminal or lawbreaker. In the article “Phone Patrol”, it states “California’s Ventura County arrested Gregory Diaz, saying they saw him participate in a drug deal. The sheriffs took Diaz’s cell phone from his pocket and scrolled through the text messages. They found one linking Diaz to the sale. Diaz was convicted.”. Allowing officials to use information through technology helps criminals pay for their crimes. Officials can help save lives. Joseph Maneen, the author of the article “Watch What You Type”, makes an interesting point when he stated, “If a student is bothering another student, the school could address the problem before the dispute gets …show more content…

Letting officials search through your online technology is a complete violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects you from search and seizures. Maria Shepard, a teacher at Princeton Day School in New Jersey, stated that the parent, not the school, should monitor the student’s online activity. It is the responsibility of the parent to monitor and punish the student’s online
