Walter Elias Disney
Walter Elias Disney was a great innovator, inventor, and entrepreneur who contributed to America’s history of innovations. When Disney was younger, he had no idea that he would some day become a household name. He knew that he loved to draw but never knew that he would become famous for his art. Throughout the years, Disney has made many peoples dreams come true, no matter what their age.
Walt grew up on a small farm in Marceline, Missouri, during his earlier years, but he was born in Chicago, Illinois. On December 5, 1901, he was born to Flora and Elias Disney and was the fourth youngest out of five children. Growing up was hard for Walt because his family moved so many times. In
1906, the Disney family moved to Marceline, Missouri, and began living a small town life. While Walt was in Missouri, he attended Park Elementary School. Living a small town life in Missouri made a huge impact on Walt’s life. Roughly five years later, in 1911, the Disneys moved back to Illinois. But they did not go back to Chicago, instead they moved to Kansas City. In Kansas, Walt and his older brother Roy helped their dad deliver newspapers at 3:30 every morning in addition to going to Benton Grammar School. Walt also attended the Kansas City Art Institute every Saturday morning. After graduating from the Benton Grammar School, he moved back to Chicago and began attending McKinley High School in 1917 and started drawing for the student paper. Within a year of attending McKinley High, Walt dropped out and enlisted in the military, but because of his young age, they declined him. Disney’s last days were in December of 1966. But ten years before Disney died, Disneyland in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17, 1955. On December 15, 1966, Walter Elias Disney died; he died as a result of lung cancer from smoking. Five years after Walt’s death, Walt Disney World opened in Orlando, Florida, on October 1, 1971, and following Orlando’s opening, places from all around the world started to open their own Disneyland’s and Disney Worlds. On April 5, 1983, the Disneyland in Tokyo, Japan, opened, and in the same year Disney Channel first aired on April eighteenth. Disneyland in Paris was the last Disney-themed amusement park to open on April 12, 1992.
