In his 2010 editorial of the 2009 economic crisis, Op-Ed columnist Frank Rich claims that the global stock market has crashed yet again due to Walt Street’s life-altering actions and excessive greed leaving millions in complete and utter ruin. Rich states how these financial monsters “gamed and inflated the housing bubble” and then took all of the profits and ran. He then goes on to say that the innumerable amount of American’s who have been directly impacted by the crisis, specifically in the housing market, were either demeaned or entirely ignored by the governmental system allowing all involved in the scheme to keep every last cent of this unjustly earned dirty money. Evidently, Wall Street is corrupted in more ways than one, but to say that these corporations are solely responsible for this disaster would be unreservedly inaccurate. Not to mention the fact the American government works to serve the people, not disregard their issues/problems. Articles such as this have shifted the blame toward the political system and hold Wall Street responsible without hardcore evidence resulting in a lack of trust sweeping throughout the nation. Moreover, Wall Street is home to one of the largest global stock exchanges and resides at the heart of the American financial sector. To put it simply, those working on Wall Street have one simple task: buy and sell. With this being said, “Wall Street” does not intrinsically “game” or “inflate” stocks of any kind. However, this is not to say that this never occurs but if it does, Wall Street is not responsible due to the unwavering certainty that all of these financial businesses rise and plummet with the global economy itself.
