Growing up as an enthusiast for mathematics, I studied the discipline at undergraduate level at elite math class in the name of Prof. Shing-Tung Yau in Zhejiang University, whose department of mathematics ranks the top 3 in China. Haven’t encountered many obstacles during the study of fundamental mathematics, I am more drawn to applied mathematics since its application in real life are more instant and beneficial. Although there are several flaws with my model, it was acknowledged as an innovative insight in pension funds analysis by several professors from the college of public administration since it is the first attempt for students to quantify the pension gap. Having studied and researched in four foreign countries prepared me to work among a high diversified calibre group - being challenged to do my best while sharing ideas in a collaborative environment. Being selected among nearly 2000 students to represent Chu Kochen Honors college in the talent training program to UC Davis, I worked with other teammates to conduct a research concerning the collaboration between entertainment business and politics. Within a week, we interviewed fifty local residents from different educational, ethical and political backgrounds, conducted literature review, drafted reports and presented in front of about a hundred American students. The presentation given by me won the first prize among all the teams and was applauded for its innovative perspective. I benefited from the international diversity during my research internship in University of Dalhousie as well. Not only did I gain from the direct interaction with my supervisor Pr. Hong Gu, from who I gained first-hand knowledge about research methodology and computational modeling skills, I also enjoyed the interaction with other MITACS alumnus from different culture and educational background.
