Although Vito “Don” Corleone appears to have a rigid personality, his character is more dynamic than it appears to be. He is “a character who [is presented] with more facets-- author portrays them in greater depth and in more generous detail” (K&G 96). Vito is introduced as a man of great power. The opening scene includes Bonasera pleading to the Don for help. Bonasera’s daughter was brutally beaten in America and the suspects were not punished in the court of law. He seeks out Don Corleone to serve justice by having the men murdered. Vito admits to being offended at the fact that Bonasera “didn 't even think to call [him] Godfather.” In desperate need, “Bonasera kisses [Don’s] hand” and is dismissed. His large body and unconditional affection for the Godfather make him the perfect man for the job. He has a savage mentality and a long history of maliciousness. Luca represents a “common or stereotypical character” (K&G 96). His size, barbarity, and absent-minded personality are all common characteristics of a character like his. He is a giant-like, threatening looking man who looks as if he could easily take down any threat to him or Vito without assistance. When Kay Adams spots Luca at the wedding, she questions Michael as to who he is. His bulky physique sits slouched in a chair and appears to be talking to himself. Michael responds that he helps his father and refers to him as “a very scary guy.” Michael continues to explain to Kay that his father once went to a band leader who wanted $10,000 to release Johnny. After returning to the leader with Luca Brasi, he signed a release for just $1000. His intimidating appearance is nothing less than expected from a character who portrays a bodyguard. Their muscle man look is representative of protection and safety. Brasi goes to tremendous lengths to ensure Vito’s safety. He acts at the command of Vito. He even sacrifices his own life in an attempt to find out information for Don Corleone. Throughout the film there are two main characters. These two characters are Irish brothers that share a deep sense of their Catholic religion. Their names are Murphy and Connor McManus. Murphy and Connor are two normal men who are put in an extraordinary situation. Connor risks his own life to save the life of his brother. The situation starts out with a bar fight with two Russian mafia members. The Russians lose the fight with the two brothers; the next morning they come after the McManus brothers for revenge. Murphy and Connor kill the two men in self defense and go to the police station. While in the holding cell, they are given a message from a “spiritual force” to rid the world of evil men. The two brothers mutter “kill all that is evil, so all that is good may flourish”(The Boondock Saints) From that moment they devote themselves to a battle between good and evil. Another important character is David Della Rocco, also known as the “Funny Man” or just Rocco. Rocco is a package boy for the Yakaveta family which is involved in the Italian mafia. The head of the Yakaveta family is “Papa” Joe Yakaveta. Papa sets up Rocco in a situation to have him killed; Rocco finds out about papa's plans and decides to join forces with Murphy and Connor in killing evil people. Al Capone (Alfonso or Alphonse Capone) was born in 1899 and passed away in the year of 1947. Once he had been brought up in New York City, Capone became connected with crimes and was the subject of murder investigations. In 1920 he moved to Chicago and became a lieutenant to John Torrio, a notorious gang leader. They established numerous speakeasies in Chicago in the Prohibition era. After eliminating his opponents, "Scarface" Capone took over control from Torrio. He was implicated in brutal murders and received tribute from businessmen and politicians. The federal government became involved in the case, and a man by the name of Eliot Ness pioneered the way. Unable to be bribed like an ordinary official, Ness secured “indictments against Capone and sixty-eight confederates, citing 5,000 offences,” although alcohol was not involved in any of them (Cyriax, “The Untouchables”). During his time investigating Capone, it was documented that Capone was so frustrated by his inability to bribe the man that Capone raged and shouted that he would kill Ness himself, however, the mob boss was unable to accomplish this, and the prideful man was reduced to a sitting duck, as his sales declined and he could feel the Feds coming closer and closer (Cyriax, “The Untouchables”).

The illegal activity brought much stress and challenges for law enforcement agencies of the area; they struggled to continuously keep alcohol off the streets. One man that caused a majority of the stress and stands out for his bootlegging empire is Al Capone. According to many historians and biographers, Al Capone was, perhaps, one of the most notorious and ruthless gangsters of the Prohibition-era based on his involvement in smuggling and bootlegging liquor, as well as his criminal activities.
Throughout life individuals face many challenges testing their values and personality one situation at a time. In the evocative novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton themes of growing up and innocence are shown. Ponyboy is not your average 14 year old he is part of a gang known to many as the Greasers. The Godfather is most notably one of the most prolific films of its time. This "gangster" film displayed many transformations of permeating color to give the viewer observable cues in its mise en scene that drew one right into the movie. The dramatic acting set the tone of the film with a score that lifted the viewer right out of their seat in many scenes. The directing and cinematography made The Godfather ahead of its time. The nostalgic feel of family importance and the danger of revenge lets us into the life of the Mafia. Even though no other techniques would have given the viewer a feeling of inside the mob like the mise en scene of the power the godfather held, the characters are reinforced literally and figuratively because the story views the Mafia from the inside out, and the cinematography of the film gives it a dangerous and nostalgic feel.
Alphonse Capone was born on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York to Gabriele and Teresina Capone. He grew up in a rough neighborhood and was a member of two gangs; the Brooklyn Rippers and the Forty Thieves Juniors. Alphonse did well at school until the 6th grade when he was expelled for retaliating against a teacher who hit him. He was fourteen at the time. He became part of the Five Points gang in Manhattan and worked in gangster Frankie Yale's bar, the Harvard Inn, as a bouncer and bartender. While working at the Inn one night, local gangster Frank Gallucio was drinking with his sister at the Harvard Inn. Capone approached the girl to compliment her, and Gallucio took offense to him started a fight. Gallucio pulled a knife and cut Capone's face three times. That is how "Scarface" came to be.
The Godfather is the “dark-side of the American dream story” (Turan, pp2). The film follows the practices of a fictional Italian mafia family, the Corleone’s. Though most Americans do not condone the practices of the Italian mafia, they cannot deny that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is a cinematic masterpiece. This film gave insight to a mysterious way of life that the average person does not have knowledge of. As the audience is educated about the mafia they also are introduced to many stereotypes.

This idea of attitudes shows why a secret society such as the Mafia should luxuriate in Sicily, and could easily be transplanted into the ghettos of the New World. The associates of the Mafia are called fratellos. They are to obey a capo, which they elect. The capo then picks the consigliari (counselors), whom help him to make justice and judgments. When one of the fratellos finds himself in any sort of difficulty, the association tries to help and assist him.
It is the Godfather that demands the family stick with family and never side with any one out side of the family no matter the situation. Vito the Godfather would remind them family is family and no one will miss treat or use any member of the family. He proves this point when his godson comes to him about a problem with a director name Jack Woltz. Because Jonny Fontane is the godson the Godfather Corleone will send his step son who is consigliere to the family to California to advise the director to hand the part over to Fontane.
Fight club is a drama that is based on the novel “Fight Club.” There are two main characters, the narrator and a character named Tyler Durden. The narrator doesn’t have a name and is played by Edward Norton. The character Tyler Durden is played by Brad Pitt and is suppose to be who the narrator wants to be. The movie is about a man who has insomnia and is trying to find a way to help him sleep. When he visits the doctor, the doctor tells him that he isn’t suffering my insomnia and he should visit a support group. Crime has been around since the beginning of time. Few, have made it a profession. The mafia has been influencing politics, economy, and assassinations of high officials. Although they weren’t good people, they influenced America in more ways than most people know. Sneaking mobsters in our government to spread corruption, destroying rival businesses, and assassinating nation’s leaders are just some of the few things the mafia has done to America.
