Victor Chang was “an outstanding surgeon and an outstanding thinker - a very original thinker” as said by the chairman of the Heart-Lung Institute at St Vincent’s. For those of you who have no idea of who he is, he basically began the modern era of heart transplantation.
He was born in Shanghai, China in 1936. He lost his mother to cancer when he was 12, and this was what started his path to become a doctor. He finished his secondary education in Australia, and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery at Sydney University.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons a few years after graduating. He then travelled to England, where he first trained in general surgery, and later trained in cardiac and thoracic therapy.
Vincent Chin, a Chinese American, was brutally beaten by two white men with baseball bats in Detroit during the summer of 1982. They had just lost their jobs in the auto-industry because Japanese cars were gaining popularity in America, and they had assumed Chin was Japanese. Chin died a few days later in the hospital due to injuries sustained during the attack. When the case was brought to court, the courts ruled that the two white men has simply been attempting to teach Chin a lesson, and the two men got off with a fine of a few thousand dollars and a couple years ' probation. This ruling was what sparked the modern Asian American civil rights movement in the United States. The information presented here is what I already know from multiple workshops I 've attended and led on Vincent Chin and his story. What I want to know is how much of this information should Wayne State’s faculty and students know? Telling and hearing this story multiple times, I personally feel that residents of Detroit should know about the spark of a revolution in their hometown, but should they really? My personal attachments the Vincent Chin story have led to pursue the attempt of answering this question.
There may been times when people have been treated unfairly, just because of their appearance or their social life.

Ai Weiwei was born during the Cultural Revolution in China of 1950s, he inherited a lot of his political knowledge from his father who was a poet called Ai Quig. Ai Quig was then later exiled with his family to re-education camps on the out reaches of a desert in 1958 for questioning government authority. After the Cultural Revolution, Chinese citizens were allowed to travel outside their borders again in 1970s. As a young man, the place that Ai Weiwei dreamed about going to was New York. He went to New York and was exposed to its western influences, its liberty and freedom of expression (Springford, 2011).Using photography Weiwei recorded and documented everything that inspired him. Weiwei visited galleries and art museums that exposed him to the world of conceptual art, becoming influenced by Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp. Ai Weiwei admired the ways of artists who could simply proclaim what was art and what wasn’t art, how Duchamp questioned art and when something gets to be art (Springford, 2011).Ai Weiwei came back to China in 1993 to take care of his sick father, and found himself drawn to his responsibility as an artist, to take the task of re-awakening his country through his art and to expose his thoughts on the corrupt and controlling nature of China’s government (Philipson,2012). Ai Weiwei has always been an outspoken artist. In the course of his art making, Weiwei has used a form of activism in his art, with political ideologies that exist because of the Chinese government. He also uses a sense of memory and the countrys past and history. Most of his art involves the public and their outlook of the government. Weiwei requests engagement from the public as a show of protest in his artworks (Harris & Zucker, 2009). When...

Dr. Denton Cooley revolutionized cardiovascular surgery in many ways. Emily Wilkinson states that Dr. Cooley transformed the way that cardiovascular surgery is done by initializing the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Hospital, and by originating many of the procedures and techniques still used today (1). Cooley revolutionized the way heart procedures are performed by developing many firsts in medicine. According to another article by Wilkinson, Dr. Cooley made history by implanting the first artificial heart in a human in 1969 to buy time and find a donor (2). Dr. Cooley tried something that has never been done before to give the patient a second chance at living. Dr. James Willerson M.D. reinforces the idea of Dr. Cooley being one of the best Cardiovascular Surgeons today:
His medical journey began with an education at the University of Michigan where he earned his medical degree and completed his residency. He also received training at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital which gave him considerable experience with many different aesthetic surgery procedures.

It will define that Zhang used traditional Chinese charcoal drawing aesthetic to show the subtext of his artworks in contemporary Chinese art. By tracing the traditional Chinese charcoal drawing aesthetic in Chinese Painter Zhang Xiaogang artistic development in the past two decades, his art as a whole can be interpreted in presenting his concerns of the foregone society and showing his own feelings towards the public history with a unique form of expression.
I can tell you that Dr. D is a pioneer in the field of heart surgery. His work saw the first artificial heart from the drawing board to the operating table. I can tell you facts because I actually looked them up for a high school English paper back in the day when papers weren't about insight, but rather people and places and all those objective matters. I wrote to Dr. D and got a form letter and a whole bunch of information about his life and trials that they send to other freaks who want to be cardiothoracic surgeons at one point or another. I still have that information somewhere, tucked away with the caduceus my brother bought me when I graduated from high school and entered college as a pre-med student.
