In a society where most everyone wants to be their own boss, it can be a very daunting task to create and run your own business when you must compete with corporate chains. This problem is especially true for privately owned veterinary clinics that want to work for the betterment of their own community and for themselves instead of working for a corporate entity. The problems that are caused by this corporate squeeze not only affect the businesses of prospective veterinarians but also the veterinarians themselves when they are trying to decide on how to handle their own careers. For example, if a privately owned veterinary clinic tries to get supplies from other corporations they must compete with the larger more corporate clinics for that product and because the corporate clinic is larger they can have a higher priority on the distributor's list or even knock out the smaller clinic from that distributor. This effectively hurts the privately-owned clinic and could cause them to go to another supplier that may not be as good as the supplier that they had or were gunning for since most corporations only look at the end quota. Not only do corporations hurt the small privately-owned businesses trying to start up but they also take away the personal aspect of the medical field due to their strict policies. Take, for example, an animal comes in that could be treated by the doctors at a corporate clinic but because the procedure is not covered by the corporation since it is not fully vented by them they will not do anything for the animal patient. Since the company is more worried about the business portion of the veterinary clinic instead of the clients themselves they most likely tell the owners of the animal to put it down instead of saving them just, so they cannot be sued in the chance that the animal does not pull through. Though there are problems with corporate businesses they can be good
