Some of the disadvantages of euthanasia in the vet clinic are It becomes a solution for population control, It can be a go-to option when pet owners can’t afford medical treatment, and it is a difficult decision to make. Euthanasia can become a solution for overpopulation because shelters euthanize animals when they are full beyond capacity. Instead of people neutering and spaying their animals they look at euthanasia as a solution. Instead of euthanizing the animals people should be encouraged to adopt animals from shelters and/or support and fund shelters so they can support more animals. Euthanasia can become a go-to option for pet owners who can not afford medical treatment because unlike human health care there are not many financial options. Pet owners can not take out a loan and pay it off when they are released from the veterinary clinic. This may lead to some owners euthanizing treatable pets instead of re-homing because they can not afford to treat the pet. Euthanasia is also a hard decision to make because some people disagree on whether or not it is ethical. It is difficult imagining losing your pet, but knowing that you have to make the decision when they are going to leave can be even harder.
