As the southwest United States experiences an unseasonable heat wave this week, Phoenix Arizona vascular surgeon Mitchell Giangobbe, MD is taking the opportunity to offer his advice on surviving the hot summer season and avoiding a trip to the emergency room for heat exposure.
“Heat strokes and heat exhaustion are serious problems that can be sometimes be deadly,” said Giangobbe. “However, most heat related deaths and illness could be prevented by following some simple steps.”
While seniors, children, and people with chronic medical conditions may develop symptoms sooner, everyone is at risk as temperatures rise. “During a heat wave, you really shouldn’t be active outdoors during the hottest parts of the day,” he said, “but here in Arizona I am still amazed to see some golfers out on the course in the blazing afternoon sun.”

Giangobbe points out there are several things that should be done to avoid the effects of extreme heat:
• Limit outdoor activity, especially from midday until evening when the sun is its strongest.
• If you must go out, stay in the shade and out of the direct sunlight.
• Never leave infants, children, or pets alone in a parked car.
• Drink more water than usual and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.
• Wear light, loose fitting clothes. If you go outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat or cap and sunglasses. Always apply sunscreen.
• Reduce your home’s heat load. Close windows, shutters, and drapes facing the sun during the day. Turn off lighting and electrical devices as possible.
• Move to the coolest room in your home. If you have air conditioning, use it to stay cool.
• Avoid using the stove or oven to cook - it will make you and your house hotter.
• If it’s not possible to keep your home cool, spend the hottest part of the day in a an air conditioned public building like a grocery store, shopping mall, or
Wear many removable layers of clothing, and always be sure the outermost layer is 100% waterproof. Also, always wear goggles. Visibility and eye protection is very important.
... the sun isn’t as high up in the sky. Large open spaces and a covered loft promote stack ventilation which also further increase the comfort zone. A mud room/hallway doubles as an airlock during extreme temperature months. The addition of active systems suffices for the rest of the heating load. On the roof positioned is a solar hot water panel which has access to solar gain. A small tankless electric water heater boosts stored hot water temperatures when needed. The ultimate goal is to simply reduce energy use by half of what the average household uses. The equipment chosen is an Eemax Electric Tankless Hot Water Heater. A solar hot water panel mounted on the dormer heats water through glycol exchange. A tankless electric hot water heater 1) boosts the solarheated stored water if it is below desired temps and 2) provides back up water heating during cloudy periods.

Burn injuries may originate in many different environments and by several different causes. The most common type of burn is a thermal or heat exposure burn. The magnitude of the burn has to do directly with the amount of time that the skin was in contact with the heat and the temperature of the heat. Usually thermal burns are cause by flames, hot liquid, steam or a hot object, depending on the severity of the burn, treatments may vary. Burns may also be caused by frostbite, chemical bur...

The average body temperature usually ranges from 36.1 degrees Celsius to 37.8 degrees Celsius. When the body's homeostasis fails to control the body temperature around the thermoneutral zone, it could lead to hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is an abnormally high body temperature. If the body fails to lower the body temperature it could lead to heat stroke, and sometimes even death. When the body's temperature is abnormal you are likely to have a fever. Having a fever is a sign that something abnormal is going on in your
The reason for all of this? UV exposure. America’s value of life is very high, yet many people die just because they are not wise enough to keep out of the sun.
amount of UV exposure absorbed by a person is a direct result of the intensity of the light absorbed, the length of time of the exposure, and whether or not the skin was protected by clothing or sunscreen. Skin damage can be prevented by limiting when and how long one is exposed to sunlight, and by wearing protective clothing and sunscreen. Avoid exposure to sunlight during mid-day hours, when it is most intense. Tight weave clothing, and hats, protect against the sun's rays. Tanning beds, while popular, are also ...
As the seasons change and winter switches into spring, allergens fill the air. During this time of year, many people who have occasional hypersensitivities to pollen and dust begin to experience the uncomfortable and irritating hacking and wheezing that accompanies the change of season. Another issue that happens when winter rolls around again is the constant use of stuffy, drying indoor heating. Coughing and wheezing throughout the day are irritating, but it’s easy to take a cough medicine or pop a cough drop. Coughing while you’re attempting to rest is even more bothersome.
Wear sunscreen year-round. Sunscreens don 't filter out all harmful UV radiation, especially the radiation
For many people, tanning is not even on their mind; for example, kids could swim all day long and not even notice he or she was tanning or maybe even getting a sun burn. He or she may think they are just having a good time outside, but do not realize what may be happening to their skin. Also, another way people get sun exposure without realizing it is by playing sports or attending an outdoor sporting event. Many people work outside in the sun all day. These people need to be educated on the effects of the sun and how to protect themselves.
Suspense; Suspense is the intense feeling that an audience goes through while waiting for the outcome of certain events. It basically leaves the reader holding their breath and wanting more information. The amount of intensity in a suspenseful moment is why it is hard to put a book down. Without suspense, a reader would lose interest quickly in any story because there is nothing that is making the reader ask, “What’s going to happen next?” In writing, there has to be a series of events that leads to a climax that captivates the audience and makes them tense and anxious to know what is going to happen. And Suspense, is what “August heat” primarily uses to keep its story so invigorating.
...also save energy by using motion censoring for doors and sinks. The dining rooms and foyers should have dim-able light switches. Another way to save a lot of energy is to make a master switch at the front door that turns off all lights. That way you never leave a light on when you aren't at home. You should use natural gas cook tops and ovens to cut down on electricity.
In conclusion, having looked at all these researches, the findings indicate that there has been an increasing pattern in air temperatures since the beginning of the twentieth century, however, some areas experienced hotter than normal temperatures, which was noticed by the Remote Sensing System and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (Collins, 2011). This increase in air temperature is mainly due to human impacts on climate. These rising air temperature patterns will end up leading to unbearable consequences in the future.
