The media presents society with unrealistic body types to encourage women to look like them. Media does this through TV shows, commercials, magazines and stereotypical types of ads. In doing so, media enforces certain body types, which women feel forced to follow. They feel less about themselves and want to look like the supermodels shown on ads. Women who focus on unrealistic body images tend to have a lower self-esteem and are more likely to be a victim of eating disorders. The media has a big influence on the health of women these days. Women feel timid about their bodies by looking at media images and how they portray a female to be. Wanting to be these thin, sculpted images every day and every night. It’s everywhere; we can’t get away from TV. The TV shows, such as America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), have tall thin lead models. In this shows selected models do a commercial shoot for Cover Girl makeup. (ANTM) If we notice, all the girls in the show are usually thin. Tyra Banks wants her tall, thin models to do makeup ads. On the other hand the healthy looking woman Queen Latifah has been a famous model for Cover Girl makeup, she plays all kind of roles in the movies and also seen on runways. She is a great example of healthy successful women. By using such tall, thin, and beautiful models, the media is sending out a message that in order to be beautiful, you have to be tall, thin and look like those unrealistic models. Beauty is something that comes from within; more than hundred dollars is spent every hour on gym activities and taking medicine to lose weight.
