The United States of America can be identified as the, Land of the Free, Home of Brave, and The nation of opportunity. These statements all have one thing in common― they bring the nation of America to mind. The United States true identity is exposed by its unique population that has built and governed the country into what it is today. Due to the great diversity within the nation of America, its citizens expose the nations true identity through the people’s contradicting views on culture and politics, along with their similar economic goals. These differences in ideas can only define a nation, allowing its viewers to view its true identity. The large nation of America was founded upon disagreements on how to run a country, leading to the beginning of defining what the new nations true identity is. For example, the Declaration of Independence was the first step colonists took in breaking away from the Tyrannical rule, Britain had over the colonies. After declaring themselves independent from Britain, America had to build an entire nation and create a new government, which is a difficult and complicated task most would run away from. The courageous move made by the citizens of the new found nation, America, deemed the United States worthy of the title “home of the brave”, as it took great bravery to stand up against a powerful, tyrannical leader, knowing it would result in having to build a new nation from the ground, up. As time progressed, American politics continued to shape the identity of the United States of America as different political parties began to appear. While forming a government, differences in ideas on how to run a country arose as Democrats and Republicans supported different methods of controlling a government. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The unemployment rate in August of 2013 was 7.3%, meaning millions of people in America could not find work and were not given any economic opportunities. Although, the unemployment rate does not include people not searching for work. If it did,the Economic Policy Institute said, “The unemployment rate would be 10.1 percent, not 7.3 percent.” Meaning, while America does not always offer its people opportunities, some Americans will refuse to take advantage of the ones given to them by not looking for work. It was also said that, while the few patriots who signed the DOI where courageous, many refused to do so because “France and Spain might be tempted to attack rather than support an independent American nation.
