Understanding Polymers

Polymers are always been around everywhere we go and have been increasing as time goes on. From its inception until today, polymers have enhanced our quality of life. The common questions asked here are usually what they are, where can I find them, where did they come from, how they are made, and what are some future possibilities? The first thing you might want to know about polymers is what they are.

Polymers can be very complicated and you can do into great depth to what they are. “Polymers are molecules which consist of a long, repeating chain of smaller units called monomers.” The next question would be what monomers are. Monomers are atoms about 4-10 atoms in size. When monomers are combined together they create polymers. (Anissimov) Polymers are simply a very long chain of atom chemically bonded together. When polymers form together they can form three different type of configurations or they patterns in which the atoms or bonded together. The three configurations are Homopolymer, Copolymer, and Graft polymer.(Teegarden)

Polymers are everywhere even if you might not know it. Polymers have always been always been everywhere but now there are even more and still growing. We are made out of many polymers are DNA, muscles, and bones are polymers. Today we make synthetic polymers. Today there is a lot of thing s that is made of synthetic polymers. A couple examples of these are clothes, plastics, and packaging. As polymers get more advances we will see them even more often. Polymers has already in almost every food item. They add polymers to protect them physically against microorganisms, water, and etc.(Teegarden)(Plastics and Polymers )
