Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe is an amazing piece of literature. The writer captures the audience with vivid illustrations of characters and scenes while telling an engaging story. The novel is about slavery in the United States during the 1800s, while the book was written to convince people slavery was a great evil, this book still has a tremendous effect today. Telling the story of two slaves lives, it gives insight not only to how slavery affected people but also the power of Christian love. Anyone who reads this book knows the powerful influence it expresses.

After Tom is sold he is taken, with other slaves, onto a boat heading south, while on the boat he meets Eva St. Clare. Eva is a beautiful, young child, she is a thoughtful girl and her powerful faith is shown through the book. When Eva falls from the side of the boat Tom jumps in the water to save her, returned safely to her father, Augustine St. Clare, Eva begs him to buy Tom, and he agrees. Tom and Eva become good friends, they enjoy reading the Bible together and Eva loves when Tom sings hymns. Eva is different from other children, she sees slaves as people equal to her, and contemplate there suffering deep in her heart. As time goes on Eva becomes increasingly weak, she knows what will happen and she is not afraid. Eva asks her aunt to cut off her curls, then she calls for everyone in the house and tells them, “Many of you, I am afraid, are very careless. You are thinking only about this world. I want you to remember that there is a beautiful world, where Jesus is. I am going there, and you can go there. It is for you as much as me. But, if you want to go there, you must not live idle, careless, thoughtless lives. You must be Christians.” Then Eva gave every one of them a curl of her
