The US Navy intelligence vessel, USS Pueblo, on January of 1968 was carrying out a surveillance off the North Korean coast. The USS Pueblo got intercepted by North Korean military boats, the vessel was fired upon and wounding some of the 83 US sailors onboard. The crew was captured and held under gunpoint. They took them to Pyongyang and charged them with spying on North Korea, they were imprisoned. This situation increased tension between the United States and North Korea. The sailors were released 11 months after that incident, the US and North Korea reached an agreement and settle under some terms.
Another military that occurred in 1968 was the Tet Offensive that happened in Vietnam. On the morning of January 30,1968 13 cities went under attack by Viet Cong forces. They attacked cities, towns and government buildings and US military bases in south Vietnam. The U.S. Embassy was also attacked. Close to 150 U.S. Marines were killed in the Fight of Hue, along with some 400 South Vietnamese troops. The Tet Offensive marked a crucial turning point in American participation in the Vietnam War.
