Many countries are entertained by a variety of sports. Sports have been around for many years. The first recorded sports date back centuries as far as 760 B.C. They also play an important role in the American, Spanish, Latin, European and American culture; along with many others. One thing we can agree on is that sports have made an impact on almost every culture and has significance in people’s lives. People gather from all over the world to engage in the live action of the many sports events around the world. Over the year’s modern sports have evolved. Games that were played primarily for entertainment have changed into to a well-oiled industry rivaling any other in size and power. Spectators travel the world to see their favorite players complete in basketball, football soccer and various others; even going to extremes of paying thousands of dollars for these short two to four hour games.
One sport, in particular, called Futbol in Latin America, plays a very important role within Latin culture. Sports can encourage structure, accountability, healthy lifestyle habits, leadership skills, team-building and various other life skills needed to function in society. Besides the love of the sport, it is important to mental, physical and emotional well-being. Some benefits of playing sports are academic improvement, mental health, teaching discipline, team work and can promote good self-esteem. In most high schools and colleges, the players are forces to keep their grades up to play. The student is benched or suspended from the game if their grades are not par with expectation. This is important as well to teach discipline. A person that enjoys playing the sport will likely ensure that their academic performance is where it should be to continue to play. Fighting for a common goal with a host of other players, coaches, managers and community members teach you how to build a collective team synergy and effectively communicate the best way to solve problems in route to a victory.
