The children of perfective outcome is always a goal which many parents approach. But, the hardest question is usually asked by a large of parents is that what is the effective method that should parents apiece use? And how can they deal with their children’s problem? Thereof, experts have carried out some studied in order to find out the best ways to thrive the children. Eventually, they had summarized into four primarily parents styles: authoritative, permissive, authoritarian and involved parenting styles. The result also reveals the tendency that almost parents belong to authoritative style is the most effective to their children outcome, specifically the authoritative parenting style have more affecting to the children than permissive parenting style in fostering their self-expression, emotional control and social skills. It is clear that no matter what parenting styles, parents always want to take care their children with deeply love, prepare for them a better life and develop their self-expression. The permissive parenting style would like to give their children a toy, or a consent to go out with their friends when they begs. Similarly, the authoritative likely possibly to give their offspring a candy or a toy when the children really want. In addition, both parenting styles willing to spend much money on hiring tutors and extracurricular activities to enhance children’s level and social skills too. They always encourages their offspring by requesting them to complete some chore, housework so as to help children create their confident and competence on dealing with simple troubles that play an important part in their life. Parenting styles have been widely defined by Baumrind into three categories, authoritative, authoritarian and permissive. Parenting styles can be defined as a pattern of attitudes in how parents choose to express and communicate with their children. These styles are categorized based on the level of nurturance, parental control and level of responsiveness (Dwairy, 2004). Authoritative style exhibits high levels of demand, responsiveness and nurturance; authoritarian style exhibits high levels of demand but low levels of responsiveness, permissive style exhibits low levels of demand but high in responsiveness and nurturance (Dwairy, 2004). These parenting styles have been proposed to have a significant impact on a child’s development as well as academic achievement and psychological well-being. Children reared by authoritative parents are stated to have the highest levels of academic achievement, self-esteem, emotional adjustment and well-being according to Baumrind’s category of styles (Dwairy, 2004). However, these three categories are based on Western samples and have been said to describe parenting styles mainly in the West and question its limitations in describing parenting across cultures, as each style’s defining patterns may have different meanings across cultures.
However, in this type of parenting style, authoritative parents are more responsive to their child, more willing to listen to questions and more forgiving rather than punishing when their child fail to meet expectations. These parents are more supportive, rather than punitive, also, they focus on making their child confident and socially responsible.(Baumrind, 1966). In authoritarian parenting style, children are expected to follow the strict rules and regulation established by the parents. The parents are too demanding and directive but not really responsive towards their children. They are also status-orientated and children are expected to obey their rules without any explanations (Baumrind, 1991). Then, there is the permissive parenting style in which the parents rarely discipline their child because they have low expectations of maturity and self-regulation. Permissive parent is more responsive, non-traditional and lenient towards their child. They are nurturing and very open with their child (Baumrind, 1991). Lastly, neglectful parenting style is those parents who have both low demandingness and responsiveness towards their children. There are four parenting styles including authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. The authoritarian parenting style is based on the implementation of rules, and on the idea that all rules should be followed without exceptions. Growing up, two group of people, parents, and grandparents, took the time and the energy to raise me. Both of them had different approaches when raising me. These approaches were different parenting styles. According to Baumrind, parenting style was the “[capturing] normal variations in parents’ attempts to control and socialize their children” (Darling, 1999). To put it simply, parenting style goal was to lecture, influence, and discipline a child. In general, there are four parenting styles with their own specific benefits and disadvantages. One’s own parenting style is usually derived from the way one was raised or the society one lives in. Parenting styles include authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive, and it is very important to know which style one falls in because it can have an effect on how one’s child grows up to be and develops.
