In one of Shakespeare's play called Twelfth Night, Orsino is the Duke of Illyria and he is a wealthy man who is respected by many people. Throughout the course of the play, the readers can see that the character shows little changes, and even when Orsino was still in love with Olivia, when he found out that ‘Cesario’ (Viola) turns out to be a female, he became in love with her and asked her to marry him immediately.
Orsino is a really passionate and desperate character and it can be seen when he always relates his love to Olivia with music. In the play, Orsino is really passionate about the idea of love and that is probably one of the reasons why he tries so hard to get Olivia to love him. The movie would be a musical feature set in the 18th century with old time period clothing. The language would be a normal everyday language and a little of old period language so the modern audience will understand it more easily. Most of the cast will have to have the ability to sing well and have an experience in starring in a dramatic movie. Most part of this movie would have the same setting as the original play but in the movie, it will have a few changes to it. The main difference this movie will have from the play is that Malvolio and Orsino will have more screen time while Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria will appear less in the movie. Moreover, when Orsino found out that ‘Cesario’ turns out to be a woman named Viola, Orsino will have some time to think before he marries Viola. Another thing that would be different is there will be more rivalry between Malvolio and Orsino. Similar to the movie adaptation of the play called Twelfth Night or What You Will by Trevor Nunn, Orsino will be wealthy so he would have a large place to live, and the same thing goes with Olivia. Scott Hipwell is a normal and happy character at first but when he found out that his wife is murdered, he became deeply affected by it so he gradually became isolated by staying in his house all day and became desperate for his wife to come back. This relates to Orsino’s character because, in the play, Orsino is also isolated when he listens to depressing music in a dark room and stays in his house all day.
Evans’s protagonist character and his portrayal of desperate for love trait of the character can also be seen in a British dystopian drama movie called High-Rise directed by Ben Wheatley, where he plays a character named Richard Wilder. Richard Wilder is a character who desperately wants love attention from other female characters, and he does that by always bothering and flirting with them. This relates to Orsino’s character because Orsino is always bothering Olivia by asking her to marry him, and Richard Wilder is constantly bothering other women to make love with
