Loyalty vs. Treachery - Appearance vs. Reality
A. “I follow him to serve my turn upon him” (1.1.45). Iago, being the conniving man that he is, pretends to be loyal to his leader in order to take advantage of him and ultimately use him for Iago’s own personal gain. Iago’s act of being loyal is part of his plan to destroy Othello.
B. “I kiss the instrument of their pleasures” (4.1.240). Even though Othello is going through a lot at this point, he remains a loyal servant to his country and to his people. Othello’s personal problems will not get in the way of his duty.

Othello is being questioned about his marriage because if anything fishy is found out then they will have a case to divorce them. Brabantio is involved in this to protect his daughter and to destroy Othello’s career.
A. “At some time, to abuse Othello’s ear That he is too familiar with his wife” (1.3.438-439). Iago now plans to trap Othello’s friend. A whole plan is thought up to trick Othello into thinking his wife, Desdemona, is cheating on him with Cassio.
“First, I must tell thee This: Desdemona is directly in love with him” (2.1.239-240). Iago keeps stringing together lies about Othello‘ wife, Desdemona, in order to embed the idea that she desires a more attractive man into Othello’s head. In order to sell the lie, Iago wants everyone to believe it so everyone talks about it and in turn Othello will believe it.
A. “And out of her goodness make the net That shall enmesh them all”(2.3381-382). Iago is a devious character and uses other people’s attributes against them. Desdemona, Emilia, Bianca Desdemona
“But that I love the gentle Desdemona” (1.2.28). Iago sees how gentle Desdemona is and loves how easy she is to manipulate.
“I was unhandsome warrior as I am! Arraigning his unkindness with my soul” (3.4.172-173). Desdemona is a young lover and must be patient with Othello in order to maintain their relationship.
Emilia
“But partly led to diet my revenge For that I do suspect the lusty moor Hath leaped into my seat” (2.1.316-318). Emilia beings to lose trust in Iago and inevitably fails to be a trustworthy housewife. At this point Iago believes that she has cheated on him with Othello.
“My wife must move for Cassio to her mistress” (2.3.405). Even though Emilia hates the fact that she knows what she is doing is wrong, she helps Cassio in order to gain his love. She is a housewife and has to follow the rules of her husband in order to have a successful marriage.
Bianca
“Now will I question Cassio of Bianca A housewife that be selling her desires” (4.1.110-111). Iago manipulates Cassio and Bianca in order to trick Othello into thinking his wife is having an affair. Bianca is very in love with Cassio but Cassio disrespects and neglects her because she is a
