Long-term Continuity of care is an ongoing process that helps with progressive improvement of both physical and mental health for survivors of disasters. The sustainability of the mental health of survivors is very significant so that they may find a way to live life in a normal extent after the experiences of traumatic event. The impact of trauma can have both short-term and long-term negative influence on the survivor’s future. However, the focus to promote a long-term treatment for issues that arises as a result of trauma. Many of the result that arises from disaster may consist of anxiety, depression, acute stress disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Halpern & Tramontin, 2007). There are long-term treatments approaches that may help to care for traumatized victims. The long term treatments includes: cognitive-behavioral therapies, family therapy and group therapy (Halpern & Tramontin, 2007). These treatments are difficult in a way that they help those survivors that do that help easily survive tragic circumstances. Many of the times when people have witness a traumatic events they are most likely to develop anxiety in the aftermath of situations. It is easy to think that after a tragedy people go back to their normal state of mind and moves on with their life; but this is not true. Although for some survivors their ability to cope after the disaster might signify the inclination of their temperament (i.e. ability to cope). Aftermath of tragic event often brings about more difficulties for the survivors more than the actual event (Halpern & Tramontin, 2007). These people are constantly plagued with their guilt, loss and their inability to have control of their grief. Many of the drugs that treat these people consist of Antidepressants (SSRIs), antianxiety or antipsychotic drugs. But these drugs might not have the lasting underlying positive effect that Cognitive-behavioral therapy does in facing traumatic memories (Halpern & Tramontin, 2007). Ultimately, the counseling and the empowerment of those who experienced trauma is a necessary for the healing process. There are many approaches in helping people heal everyone is unique in their own way and it is up to them and their support team to figure out the bet process of recovery to take. When there is a tragedy that takes away self-reliance, safety and security. The proper result from extensive long term treatments for trauma victims should be the deterioration of barriers that may stand in their way.
