The transition from middle school to high school is an amazing journey, one which will finally bring out your true self. It’s a whole new experience of not only learning, but also the campus, students, and faculty. This turning point in our lives may seem like a very challenging journey if you don’t know what to do, but I already have a goal. To get into Victoria Park’s International Baccalaureate, also known as IB, program. My passion to learn is very strong, and I am looking forward to being in an atmosphere where many have the same mindset as I. I am a very balanced individual and enjoy being in various situations. I not only participate in academic clubs but also qualify to go to interschool sports teams. In my previous years, I have participated and qualified many …show more content…
I not only am active at school, but I also attend South Indian music and dance classes as well as religious classes. These classes are being held on weekends, where I stretch my time to participate in these extra-curricular activities. I also am a very open-minded person. I will not hesitate before letting an individual voice their opinion. I think the IB program will help me find and develop who I am as a human being. I haven’t found my inner call yet and am confident that the IB program will help me, as it has done to many students who have previously attended this program. I also enjoy learning various ways to solve a problem and am open to any opportunities that fly my way. I think that the IB program will help me deepen my understanding of various concepts and will lead me to university smoother than regular programs. I personally am proud to call myself a reflective individual. I analyze everything that comes my way in depth and will always be a critical thinker. I will never stop wondering how I can get better in various subjects. I always take every comment the teachers make and treat it with the utmost
After my first few months of college, I realized I enjoy being a college student much more than I enjoyed being a high school student. However, the transition between the two extremely diverse worlds, was challenging at first, I found out how to overcome it. Originally, I couldn’t realize how different the two were, but as time went on, I was about to notice the differences. Not everyone is able to be aware of the many similarities and difference. Some differences include: cost, amount of freedom, and reasons why people are there. On the other hand, both high school and college have similar class structure and both require time management. The better prepared a student is to challenged with these many similarities and differences, the more
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
“What are your plans after high school?.”, This is a question that everyone is asked multiple times throughout the course of their lives. Sometimes it is just something that they themselves ponder in their own thoughts. What someone does after high school should be something that is not only interesting to that person, but will ultimately lead them into a career that they will loved and enjoy. A great career that is definitely worth considering is that of a paramedic. The job description of a paramedic is very broad and can have many affects on a person's life. But not only is this job greatly fulfilling to someone’s personal life, it is also very fulfilling to someone else’s life as well. It is a fast paced, adrenaline fueled job that requires more than the faint of heart. It requires a person who not only enjoys the thrill of the rush and a hard adrenaline pump, but is also content with
In recent discussions of education, a controversial issue has been whether or not to go to college after high school. On the one hand, some argue that starting your career after high school is the smart thing to do. On the other hand, however, others argue that the smarter decision would be to continue your schooling by going to college to get a degree. In sum, then, the issue is whether or not college is the right decision for you. My own view is that you should go to college because it helps you build character, start a tradition, and gives you experience.
Theresa M. Letrello & Dorothy D. Miles (2003) The Transition from Middle School to High School:
She taught me how to be a good person in a time of darkness in our small town. My friend Madeline is such an outgoing, caring, above and beyond person. She also is a great leader and very artistic. This is why we became friends. When we met we were both shy but so how she felt special to me. Because of this she is my Michigan Hero.
One of the first thing a freshman hears or thinks about when going to college is the legendary “freshman fifteen.” The freshman fifteen is defined as a fifteen pound average weight gain that happens during a student’s first year in college. This problem has affected many freshmen because it causes them to fear that they are going to gain weight when they go off to college, but the undetected truth of this case is that a lot of freshmen lose or gain under fifteen pounds. To solve this ongoing problem, colleges and universities should incorporate more healthy food items on campus, provide student cooking, and create fitness and wellness housing.
The list of IB traits involve terms that a successful student should learn to adapt throughout their school years. Traits such as caring, risk-taker, open-minded, and balanced relate more to one’s personal life than traits like knowledgeable, thinker, reflective, principled, inquirer, and communicator which are more focused on the academic portion of one’s life. Although not everyone will begin the program with all these traits in their pocket, all students should grow and adapt towards new possibilities and a new personality than originally.
There are two things that almost everyone in the world will go through at some point in their lifetime. Elementary School and High School. Both of these times involve three main things. One is what expectations people have for others when it comes to athletics. Another is the amount of workload a student will have daily while in either Elementary or High School. The last one is the amount of stress caused by both the workload and the expectations. All three of these things factor into the statement that Elementary School is a better than High School.
Education plays a very important role in a person’s life. Basic education is attained through primary school and high school. Education may be further perused after graduating from high school by attending university. This decision can make a person’s future brighter because, in most cases it is really hard to get a well-paid job and live a stable life without having a bachelor’s degree. However, people who want to peruse higher education must know that although there are similarities, there are also some differences between high school and university in terms of assignments, teachers, and responsibilities.
Stress is a situation that most people face in their day, whenever it be at home or in work. However, high schoolers might face increased stress during their daily routine. Stress is a natural reaction when it feels if it’s threatened; one’s body releases many special kinds of hormones including but not limited to cortisol and adrenaline. However, it’s obvious to us that some may not need these reactions when doing something harmless like taking a test as opposed to sprinting away from a hungry tiger, but not to our bodies. This causes overuse in stress, which has the potential to cause many health problems ranging from sleep deprivation and heart problems (Segal et al.). I have investigated some of the many activities of a high schooler, from relationships to sports to college applications. I have looked into if the high schoolers are stressed in a cause to this, and if there’s any effect the stress has in other activities. I discussed with a high school track coach of a prestigious team, John Murtaugh of Pascack Valley, a high school senior, and polled almost 80 other actual high schoolers or high school alumni from various backgrounds. Using all of the extensive information I gathered from them and many other sources. From my research, I have concluded that a high schooler’s life could be very stressful.
Comparing college to high school is like comparing a fish to a bird. They are both animals, but both have great differences. Some people say that college is supposed to be the best time of your life, while others say that high school was. I believe that it just depends on what you did during both. For some, the freedom of college was the greatest thing, and for others the freedom was awful because they were so used to their parents being right by them when they needed something. The differences of college and high school are almost as broad as the similarities between these two great times in a person’s life.
Becoming a good student for most is not an easy task. One may be asking if there is a definite way to distinguish a good student and the answer is it 's merely impossible to say a student is considered “good” based on only one factor. Many people define good students as kids who have the best grade in the class. Since most of the time this is true, grades can only be looked at as a single way of how we define the term “good”. We must remember that even poor students can earn high grades occasionally, thus proving why grades are not the best indicator of a student’s quality. The “good student” label will most likely lay on the discipline that their parents laid down for them in school as a child. A good student can balance a positive attitude
Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. High School is four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. I wanted more than just academic excellence; I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to add value to every aspect of my life, I wanted a rounded education and not just mere schooling. My success story is what I will like to share with you; how I really made it and how this defines my personality. My journey in High School was scary, exciting, and successful.
Trying to write an essay is difficult. Reading a book with the very nicely written essays is great and allows me to see examples of good essays. Suggestions such as the journalist’s questions, mapping, brainstorming, and idea books give support and guidance that are supposed to be helpful. After reading all the material of what goes into an essay and the helpful suggestions to get me started in the right direction, such as ways to overcome writer’s block, it is time to begin. Still nothing; I just sit there in front of the computer. I ask myself, how can I use all of the useful information that has been given to me? I try mapping and brainstorming, but a topic or idea is needed. Frustration, irritation, and confusion are very strong emotions I have at this point. I go back to the text and reread one of the stories, and something clicks. An experience comes to me that can be related easily to one of the stories in the required text, so I begin.
