Have you ever met someone who identifies as transgender? Have you ever wondered how that works? Or have you thought of it as “just a phase”? I’m here to explain how the science works, and that it’s not a phase, it’s very real. No, being transgender is not caused by hormonal imbalance. Transgender individuals have the same amount of hormones any cisgender (a person who identifies with the sex/gender they were assigned at birth) person. This information is found in paragraph four of “Being Transgender Has Nothing To Do With Hormonal Imbalance”.
People have studied and found that transgender individuals have more similar brains to their experienced gender than they do of their birth-given sex. For example, female-to-male individuals have a thinner subcortical areas, which is much more common in cisgender men than cisgender women. Being transgender is not an act of confusion or a choice to get attention, but a consistent, real, gender identity. A study, which is published in Psychological Science, contains prepubescent transgender children, and were aged matched with their cisgender siblings and another group of cisgender children. The experiment used the Implicit Association Test to determine the trans and cisgender children’s gender identities. The studies proved what I just said: being transgender is not a phase or a choice.
