Tommy Douglas was a remarkable Canadian whose contributions have helped to shape our nation. During his forty two years in politics, Tommy Douglas proved himself to be an outstanding Canadian leader. He is largely responsible for our central banking, old age pensions, unemployment insurance, and our universal medicare. Though he never became Prime Minister, he is highly regarded by the general public. Tommy Douglas was one of the greatest Canadians that ever lived.
Tommy Douglas is known as a prolific politician but considering his contributions that is a huge understatement. He can be seen as a role-model for all generations to come. When Tommy Douglas was asked why he stayed with the NDP (National Democratic Party) when he could have been more successful with a more powerful party he replied “I have watched politicians for the last forty years drop their principles in order to get power only to find that those who paid and controlled the party which they joined prevented them from all the things they really believe in”. To the end of his days Tommy Douglas was true to himself, to ...
Paul Wellstone knew that, as Kennedy wrote, “it would be more comfortable...joining whomever of our colleagues are...enslaved by some current fashion” (17). But he understood that true statesmanship is putting the national interest above one’s own benefit. Wellstone, in a time of conformity, showed courage and strength in risking his political life for an ideal he cared deeply about. Perhaps the best description of Wellstone’s character came from a colleague, Sen. Barbara Mikulski: “He didn’t look ahead to the next election; he looked ahead to the next generation” (CITE
Sir Arthur Currie was not a man raised to become a great general, he had to start from the beginning and work his way to the top. He served his country by fighting and leading battles that made Canada a great independent nation, making him a figure of inspiration to many Canadians. In the many battles of World War One, including Amiens, Passchendaele, Vimy Ridge, and others, Arthur Currie devised well prepared, flexible, unique, and intelligent war strategies that led Canadian troops to victory.

You can’t change the past. It’s only when a person moves on that they discover they can achieve happiness. How true is this statement in regards to The Story of Tom Brennan?
It takes many generations for any single country to evolve from its earliest state into what would be considered a "developed" nation. The changes that take place within the country are generally attributed to a small number of visionary individuals. Many people can be accredited for contributing to the progression of Canada. John G. Diefenbaker, conceivably the single most influential person in the history of Canada, played a crucial role in the development of the country, to what it is today. Diefenbaker's work resulted in the redefining of Canada's cultural identity, the creation of major bills and policies within government legislation as well as developing a stance on foreign affairs and many policies dealing with global issues.
Pierre Trudeau will certainly not be forgotten, even after his death. In my opinion he accomplished a lot for Canada but I disliked his crazy ways of politics, to me the way he does things don’t make much sense. Unlike other politicians Pierre Trudeau, had four central themes: the freedom of the individual; the political equality of all individuals; the superiority of rationality; and democracy as the best form of government. What is interesting about these principles is that at various points in his writing Trudeau's value for each one of them compromises and even contradicts his value for one or more of the others. In this way, irony becomes a part of Trudeau's liberalism.
Mr. Smith was appointed to be a Senator on a whim. He was the leader of the Boy Rangers with no political experience. He was principled with a clear view on right and wrong. Mr. Smith took his ideals as far as risking his career when he did not compromise in order to maintain his beliefs. In addition, special interest groups did not impact Mr. Smith's decisions. He was untouched by the corruption that he learned existed in the legislature. Yet upon discovering it, he did not change himself. Mr. Smith did not place any emphasis on re-election and did not care if people thought negatively about him as long as he remained with his values.

When an individual sets their mind to a cause and dedicates a lot of their time and effort to fight for what they believe in, they can accomplish a lot. Tom Harkin displayed a lot of courage throughout his life whether it was in school, the armed forces or even during his time as a politician for the state of Iowa, and by doing so he left a great legacy at Iowa State University that many students can admire.
Hamilton exemplified heroism and bravery throughout his whole life not spending a second dwelling upon his hardships, but to fight for his country and stand up for what he believes in. Hamilton influences our world in many ways today and without him and his accomplishments I don’t know where we would be in our world today. Alexander Hamilton was a fighter and an overall great man of intelligence and
In March of 1946, a man named Kenny Washington made a very important contribution for the NFL (Britannica). Kenny Washington became the first African American to ever play in a professional sports league (Amaral). Since he was colored in the 1940 draft class, none of the teams wanted to draft him (Bowen). Even though Kenny was doubted and treated differently than others, he was able to play on a smaller league team near the Pacific coast (Bowen). Then the day finally came when Kenny was allowed to play in the NFL after World War II had ended. This essay will discuss the story of Kenny Washington’s life before he became the first African American football player, what he went through to get there, and why he is important to the NFL.

Landscape painting was extremely important during the middle of the nineteenth century. One of the leading practitioners of landscape painters in America was Thomas Cole. He visited many places seeking the “natural” world to which he might utilize his direct observations to convey the untainted nature by man to his audience. His works resolved to find goodness in American land and to help Americans take pride in their unique geological features created by God. Thomas Cole inspired many with his brilliant works by offering satisfaction to those seeking the “truth” (realism) through the works of others.
