Tokyo Godfathers, an anime directed by Satoshi Kon, sets an urban landscape of Tokyo about the lives of those who cherishes supports each other. Tokyo Godfathers clearly emphasizes the human capacity to express, to enjoy, and to love life. In summary, the movie centers on three homelessness characters where each and every one of the three have had a miserable background. On the snowy December of Tokyo, these three set out on an adventure to find a missing baby’s mother. Throughout the story, the film attributes three main issues that are conflicted within the bizarre adventure of the three homeless characters. The film mainly deals with the individual conflicts amongst families, the lifestyle of the homelessness, and the virtues of life.
The director Satoshi Kon draws towards the attention of how the three characters wanted to be loved by their families and how they want to get back to them. The three all made mistakes in their lives and they feel that they aren’t welcomed anymore at home as showed in several scenes. In truth, they desperately want their families back. Satoshi Kon elaborates on this particular feeling through the nostalgic incidents that pops up within each respective character. Although Gin, an alcoholic beverage drunk, lied about his past, he desperately wants to be reunited with his long last wife and his daughter, Kiyoko. Gin messed up in his life because he gambled too much and neglected his wife. In the movie, he demonstrated a yearning to be with his daughter when the three homeless characters found a baby; because of his daughter, Gin accepted the baby to be called Kiyoko. ... her about their problem. Satoshi here clarifies that as humans, we can’t simply be driven to our own feelings. We have to understand others as well before committing a deed. Satoshi also directed a moral that all problems and obstacles can be overcome. Everywhere, there are problems and people resort to all sorts of bad things. They need to be readdressed that these problems could be stopped. Moreover, Satoshi emphasizes the very importance of not giving and the love of being with someone throughout the movie. Sachiko had given up on herself simply because of the loss of her child, but was found with love and joy after her husband conceded. The whole movie centers on these homeless characters, but they never gave up on finding the truth about the baby’s mother. They only continued to search because they feel the love and the warmth of how it is to be with a family.
