Tipping Points

Climate change is a problem that is going to ruin our planet and furthermore our race. We need to recognize it as a serious issue as well as take actions to slow the process down as soon as possible. This has to be a group effort, one person won’t make a difference but an entire country will. This paper will inform the people living on our earth that the planet is reaching a tipping point. This point is where we can’t do anything anymore, all of our problems will combine and create a snowball effect that can’t be stopped. The problem with this “tipping point” is we have no idea when it will happen. If our race acts soon enough we might be able to get enough of a grip to slow down or reverse climate change. If the race put two and two together that if climate change reaches a tipping point for this earth we are all going down with the ship. After that, everything is a lost cause. Some humans are already feeling the effects of climate change health wise, they just don’t know that if everyone works together maybe there is a chance we can reverse it. Health problems in humans from heat are very common, many people have respiratory problems where heat can be very detrimental. “Given that the impacts of climate change are projected to increase over the next century, certain existing health threats will intensify and new health threats may emerge.”(Usgcrp.). Some diseases or health threats are obviously affected by climate change but there are also some that people don’t think about. Some examples of this are water quality and even insect borne illnesses like Lyme Disease and West Nile Virus. If water and food is affected that could be a tremendous problem for our race. Obviously we need food and water to live on earth, if one of those are taken away from our already short supplies from mass-population we will be in bad shape. Another health risk is mental illness and depression, that sounds odd but it’s actually true. Climate change can ruin the economy with the droughts and extreme storms and mess up the agriculture of certain places. “Between 1980 and 2011 floods affected …show more content…

They think that earth is on a natural cycle where there are ups and downs and humans have little to no effect on it. 2016 was the hottest year on date and we have doubled what the predicted cycle would be without our emissions. The climate is on a severe spike and there is nothing that will bring that down unless the human race makes a change of living style. “Because emission rates of these gases exceed their rate of sequestration and uptake by the oceans and biosphere, their concentration in the atmosphere has grown rapidly since the beginning of the industrial age, and it is threatening to double by the first half of the next millennium. The projected consequence is a warmer earth and revised agendas in other climate-sensitive areas.” (Nkemdirim) There are many stats that our CO2 emissions from industrialization, cars, and other contributors are making the global temperature rise. All governments need regulations to stop this from happening, they have to add more and not get rid of many. The planets needs stricter laws and regulations so we don’t reach its tipping point and then we can’t go back and save ourselves because it will be too late to do anything. Laws and regulations that already exist are “The Clean Air Act”, “Clean Water Act”, “Toxic Substances Control Act, and many others (EPA). “The Clean Air Act has the most to do
