In this essay I will state reasons on how Thomas Jefferson wasn’t a great president to the United States. Jefferson was those type of persons that will be like a two faced person. He will act like he was a honorable person in public but in reality people did not know the dark secrets Thomas Jefferson had behind the person he was in front of people. A lot of his secrets were discovered after his death by his slaves that he owned and also he had one particular slave that escape from him but came back being afaid of Thomas Jefferson punishing him and even beating him. Thomas Jefferson was known for convincing slave owners to set free some of their slaves. In which he had even wrote a bill that stated that slaves should become free. Even though Jefferson was born into owing slaves he still felt that freeing all slaves will cause them to not be able to survive on their own. It was said that Thomas Jefferson was supposedly afraid for his own economic survival. Thomas later decided that if the slaves were freed they will have to return to their native country Africa.
Even though Thomas Jefferson was anti-slavery he himself owned slaves in which he would hide from people knowing he had them in his home. Thomas Jefferson had a secret passageway underneath his home more like a tunnel in which the slaves will come in and out to the house to do their duties demanded by Jefferson. He even had a system set up where the dinner plates will just pop up on the table to the people that were going to have dinner with him. He used that method so nobody that was a visitor at his Monticello home will know about his slaves, he always had them be unseen....

... Federalist thought it was best to reduce the prices on such items. During 1801 to 1808 taxes were increased by Jefferson which then caused a surplus in the Treasury Department. The surplus was good for the people since prices went down but on the other hand they had to pay higher taxes so the surplus wasn’t such a good benefit to them. Later on Jefferson and his secretary of treasure Albert Gallatin proposed to increase tariff duties by 2.5 percent and adding an additional duty of 10 percent on all imported goods. By them adding the extra percentage on to imported goods, it cost the merchants more money to ship their goods and they weren’t making much profit since everything was going up during this time. Thomas Jefferson was adding all this expenses to people’s pockets even though all he was trying to do was to start paying of some of the debt that was being due.
