Thomas Gage
In my opinion, Thomas Gage is a very talented and well trained leader for an army. He knew how to listen to his men and he knew how to watch his opponents and how they fought and this would help him defeat the British. Thomas Gage was a very successful general in war and he picked his men out very well. In his biography you will find that he was very well respected and trusted in his home by his family and friends, then most importantly in the field of battle. Then as I walk you through his accomplishments you will see all the battles he fought hard and conquered, then you will also see how popular he was among the other leaders and army men. Then towards the end, you will learn about the big impact Thomas had on some of the wars he fought in and some of the men he fought with.

As I read through his biography, I never saw anyone giving him trouble or any men in his army give him a hard time or back talk him. Like I said earlier, Thomas was a much respected man and he was thought of as a highly man too. Thomas was born in 1719 or 1720 and he died on April 2, 1787 at the age of 67 or 68. He was in the office from May 13, 1774- October 11, 1775. Then in 1754 he was assigned to North America to serve in the French and Indian War. I remember reading that Thomas was very excited to get out of the office to go out into the field and fight for his country. He became a general in 1760 after he was named “The military governor of

Throughout history there have been many great leaders. Many leaders who have changed the shape of America and also soldiers of today’s Army. One leader that comes to mind and has shaped me into the leader I am today is Abraham Lincoln. When I look at Abraham Lincoln and what he has done, I think of what Army Leadership manual ADRP 6-22 defines what a leader should be and how leadership is based off of attributes and competencies.
Robert E. Lee was the best General for the South, and out smarted every Union General that was put against him. To The South, Lee is like a godly figure to them. He inspired The South even when the North controlled the battlefield, and is still thought highly of by some people in the confederate states. To the North, Lee was a traitor and even lost his citizenship. Although he lost, Lee is still a giant face in history.
Washington's selection to be the leader of the Continental Army was the wisest choice that the newly formed Continental Congress could have made. .... The Patriots believed in themselves, and they never thought about the idea of losing battles. Two people whom provided this ideology was George Washington and Benedict Arnold. In schools, these days students, are learning about Benedict Arnold as a hero, but back in time the congress did not consider him and respect him as he needed to be respected. There were some logical reasons why he left the Patriots and went to the British side. First of all, he was not respected as much as the other generals. Second of all, he had sacrificed a lot of things for his country and he had fought for the country by risking his life. Lastly, the government was not giving him the credits that he deserved from the victories that he had in the battles. These reasons pushed and forced him to go to the British side. After he went to London, everybody started calling him a traitor.
George Washington was selected Commander in Chief of the Continental Army because of his courage and bravery, his ability to motivate and command respect from his followers, and his strategic ability in battle. His reputation as a daring and successful leader inspired confidence and loyalty in his followers. If it weren't for George Washington, it would be a different America today.

Thomas Jefferson was one of the most influential people of the 18th century because he was one of the founding fathers of America, he was the founder of the University of Virginia, and he was the creator of many life changing inventions, which drastically changed the world.
He suffered from stage fright and often “blushed and faltered”, (18) even at his inauguration as President, “he trembled and several times could scarce make out to read his speech” (18) This weakness of his is often glossed over as it doesn’t seem to fit in with his image as the towering, imposing “founding father”. Yet today, it is essential for a President to be able to deliver impressive and clear speeches to the whole country. Finally there are some criticisms that he was not as effective General as is often believed. Thomas Paine claimed that he was a bad general whose strategy consisted of “doing nothing” (19). Although Paine had a personal agenda in condemning George Washington as he resented not being appointed Postmaster-General, and then later by not being rescued from French persecution by the government, it is true that George Washington did lose more battles than he won (20) and often did seem to do nothing for long periods of time. There is also the issue of his harsh treatment towards his own soldiers, any who were caught deserting or plundering were “flogged” (21) and he even a “Gallows near forty feet high erected” to terrify the rest into obedience.

Arguably one of the greatest generals in American history Douglas MacArthur was born to be in the military, his father Arthur MacArthur was a great soldier who honorably in the Army and it MacArthur went to West Point to follow in his father's footsteps. MacArthur served for rising through the ranks at a rapid pace, he became most well known for his leadership during the second world war but after that he led his troops on the battlefields of Korea in his seventies. Although MacArthur proved to be a brilliant general, his aggressive decisions towards the end of the Korean War led to his honorable removal as general of the United Nations Army and his heroic actions and tales to be cemented permanently in American History.
Robert E Lee is very quick and smart. He knows how to improve the quality of troops and to nullify the Union’s advantage. Lee is willing to make bold and risky moves, and does not let his defeats hinder his performance. General Lee has great relations with his soldiers, and uses his engineering experience to his advantage.

He contributed greatly to the establishment of this prosperous country, from leading the Revolutionary armies into battle, to running the country as the first president, Washington has set precedence and example for all who have and are yet to follow. He was a noble man who demonstrated characteristics one would expect from a hero figure. He was not power-hungry, but did things and played his role for the good of the country, for patriotic purposes, to help America become the success it is today. In March of 1783, the soldiers of the American military were restless, bored and in a terrible state of doubt and distrust concerning the newly formed congress of the country. When these soldiers joined the army, they were promised a certain amount of money according to their service, but by the war's end, congress was nearly broke and not in a position to pay them all they had earned. The soldiers planned a rebellion against congress for their unjust treatment, and attempted to hold an unauthorized meeting of the officers on the matter. Washington forbade the meeting, but called for one a few days later, in which he gave his speech concerning the Newburgh Conspiracy ("The Rise and Fall," 2006, para.2). General Washington was a highly respected man among his peers, soldiers, and fellow men. His opinions, approval, and presence alone were enough to validate many plans, documents, and meetings throughout his life, so it is no wonder that even simple words or acts performed by General Washington were respected, and more often than not, taken to heart by his audience; perhaps this is why it may seem surprising that one of the most important speeches he ever gave fell on relatively deaf ears, leaving the audience hesitant, confused, seemingly unaffected by his powerful use of diction, and emotional appeal.
