Even though there are laws, that address religious oppression, but the laws in place are not always follow. For example, it is illegal to fire someone just because of their religion. Despite this law, people are still getting fired by what they believe. Oppression of religion was evident in the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and in the Middle East today. The laws that are in place today state that “The law forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, lay off, training, fringe benefits and other term or condition of employment.” Here is an example of what happens in the real world that violates the freedom of religion.“Not to put too fine a point on it, but before you can truly be persecuted for being Christian, you would need to actually behave in a manner that at least somewhat resembles Christ.” This quote is saying that the people that are able to be persecuted for their religion need to first practice their religion. …show more content…
