This essay will consist of a discussion on behaviour theories and how behaviour has a connection to learning. Behaviourism has three main theories namely, classical conditioning, operate conditioning and observational conditioning, furthermore learning occurs after the behaviour has taken place. Behaviourism emphasizes on the role of environmental factors which results in influencing the behaviour. This essentially results to focusing on learning, as we learn and experiment, this causes an alteration in the way the environment is perceived, also in the way we interpret the incoming stimuli, and therefore how we choose to interact, or behave. Learning may be learned through classical or operant conditioning.

Sarah was independent, as she enjoyed having time to herself. Sarah was sensitive to stressful situations, if there was a stressful situation she would act out and become irritable, when she did this her mother would buy her gifts which results in reinforcing her behaviour as she was not punished, her mother reinforced the behaviour as the more she cried and acted out in school the more gifts she would receive (Frank & Cohen, 1980). In Frank & Cohen’s article he states that children who have a moody temperate should be punished if they are disobedient and Sarah did not receive any punishment as her mother rather gave her girts to please her (Frank & Cohen, 1980). Sarah seemed to practice the operant conditioning as there was more reinforcement in her behaviour. Moreover, the other twin Sandra was slightly chubby and got teased from her family, nonetheless Sandra was an active dancer and liked having people around her, she was slightly opposite to Sarah as she was not sensitive, as Sandra showed more affection to Sarah this is also seen in Frank and Cohen’s article as one twin is more likely to be more affectionate than the other (Frank & Cohen, 1980). Sandra got more attention from her parents as she well seen to be well behaved. Sandra received higher grades than Sarah and was continuously receiving rewards and prizes at school for her work this made her parents proud, therefore she was praised by her family (Frank & Cohen, 1980). This results in Sandra receiving gifts and rewards therefore she did this on purpose to get a response, this could be seen as positive and continuous
