After reading and looking back on my notes for the book, The Bomb, Written by Theodore Taylor, and focusing on conflict and how it connects to the theme, I am beginning to realize that there are many themes present throughout the book. This book is about the story of a young boy names Sorry who tries to stop the American Government from testing a nuclear bomb of his home on Bikini Atoll. However, only now do I realize that there are many different themes for this book that contradict each other. For example, the main theme of the book is, sometimes you need to accept your fate because it is inevitable. However another theme that can also work for this book is, never be settled with what you have and always try harder. And besides these two themes there are multiple other themes that are present throughout the book, such as, self sacrifice is sometimes necessary for the benefit of other people. …show more content…

Throughout the book, I have noticed that the main character Sorry, has to give up a lot, and is willing to fight to the death to the death to keep it the way it was. However we see that on page, 43, see see Sorry notices the American ships ashore Bikini. Because Sorry is really patriotic we see that he wants to do anything to stop them from coming. He also gets really worried that the Americans will hurt his friends and family. A conflict that is present hear is in between the Americans and Sorry. However later he his forced to accept them coming on the island. I am now realizing that that really supports the theme. He had to give up what he is willing to fight for, for the benefit of his friends and family, and in a way the Americans. This also gives me an idea and I thinks it's kind of ironic because we see that by trying to protect his family he tried to keep the Americans out. But we later see by letting them in he also benefited
