Friendships have the tendency to make one feel appreciated and well supported. Whether you realize it or not, your friends have shaped who you are today. It is important to acknowledge two types of friendships; entity and being. Writers use the theme of friendship to highlight the companionship people have in association with others in literature, which illustrates how humanity values beings.
Throughout the ages of time, man has called his own dog one of his dearest companions. Wilson Rawls unveils that the influence of a dog is capable of producing an effect on the behavior of others. Dogs will accept their owner without question “… I so desperately wanted to see them and hold them” (Rawls 27). Dogs will never disapprove others, be prejudice, racist, betray, criminal personalities, and maim each other. Dogs are very loyal and will protect their owner with everything they have. That is why a friendship with a dog is incomparable to anything else, disclosing to the reader the importance of such a friend. “I looked at his grave and, with tears in my eyes, I voiced these words: “You were worth it, old friend, and a thousand times over” (Rawls 235).
There are times when the main character has befriended wild animals as it is inhabited in an uncultivated region. Jean Craighead George showcases the dismal effects of wilderness survival. “That’s just what I want. You feel pain while holding onto purpose and you feel pain when you let it go. So is purpose even worth obtaining in the first place? Hoarders that an item will be useful or valuable in the future. Or feel it has sentimental value, is unique and irreplaceable. too big a bargain to throw away. They may also consider an item a reminder that will jog their memory, thinking that without it they won’t remember an important person or event. Or because they can’t decide where something belongs, it’s better just to keep it.
You feel pain while holding onto purpose and you feel pain when you let it go. So is purpose even worth obtaining in the first place?
It is through these friendships that drive humans to improve themselves in mind, body, and soul. Without cultivating this bond of friendship humanity will fall apart.
