Hamlet a play by Shakespeare has many themes that affect how the play continues, two that develop together are revenge and manipulation. Revenge is critical to many of the main characters such as Hamlet and Laertes. Both men see that something has happened to their fathers that they see as injustice. This causes them to take action or revenge upon that individual whom has committed an injustice. Manipulation is intertwined with revenge because of how in some cases characters such as Hamlet had to manipulate those around him. When Hamlet manipulated he forced Claudius to show his true colors and the people around acted as if towards his will however no one knew why this was happening. In Hamlet Shakespeare develops the underlying themes together in the story; revenge is represented with allusion towards cultural norms, and manipulation is interlaced with the plot-element, setting.

Revenge coupled with manipulation develop further throughout the story by feeding off each others development. Both themes are similar because the ghost in the story states this to Hamlet,” If thou hast nature in thee, bear it not. Let not the royal bed of Denmark be a couch for luxury and damned incest.”(1.5,81-83). This scene shows how the …show more content…

Revenge is the action caused by the manipulation of the ghost. This is the cause for them simply having a similarity in which the themes have common ground to build upon. Shakespeare also uses the literary devices to further develop each theme. Revenge is shown through signs of allusion towards normal behavior in the time frames culture. Manipulation is developed further by the use of plot-element,setting when the ghost manipulates Hamlet to further the play's plot.
