Lost boy is a follow up to Dave Pelzer’s book A Child Called It. This Novel Is a Auto-biography by Dave Pelzer. It follows his experiences in the foster care system. After being taken from his mother Dave goes from one foster home to another and he describes his life there.
The Novel starts out where it left off in the novel A Child called “It” which is his mother as always abusing him. To better knowledge you on this book the first paragraph of this novel reads ( I’m alone. I’m hungry and I’m shivering in the dark. I sit on top of my hands at the bottom of the stairs in the garage. My head is tilted backward. My hands became numb hours ago. My neck and shoulder muscles begin to throb. But that’s nothing new- I’ve learned to turn off the pain. I’m Mother’s prisoner.) This nine years old boy was treated worse then the animals he lived with. He was told when to move, when to eat, and when he was aloud to sleep. This novel takes you threw him being taken from his mother which made him a ward of the state to going threw series of foster family and also in a juvenile detention center.
I think that everyone in the world should read this book because it is a very indebt novel. Any one that wants to pursue a career dealing with child abuse or anything related to it should also read this book so they can see a abused child’s point of view. The main reason that I love this book dearly is because it is a very emotional novel and also because it really metaphorically put you in Dave’s life situations.
Dave Pelzer’s book “A Child Called ‘It’” told his story of growing up in an abusive household. Pelzer’s family at first was just like any other, his parents loved each other and their children and they would do many fun activities together. As time progressed a change happened and his mother began to always punish Pelzer rather than any of the other children. The small punishments soon began to grow and become more and more serious. Soon, Dave’s father and siblings could not help him out of fear that their mother and wife would turn on them. Dave was banished to the garage where he would have to sit at the bottom of the stairs waiting until his mother called him to do his chores. Usually Pelzer would be starved for very long periods of time
'You are a nobody! An It!?(Pelzer 140). These were the raw, disheartened remarks that came from the disgusting coldhearted mother's mouth. These painful hurting remarks at her son was how the book got its title and that's what interested me in reading this book. A Child Called 'It', by Dave Pelzer, is a life-changing story about, a young boy who is starved, beat, and tortured by his mother and her cruel games, yet he manages to turn his life around when he grows up. This young boy uses his faith, self-discipline, and will power to overrule his mother's destruction and life damaging obstacles.

I chose the book, The Child Called “It” because one of my friends told me about the book. The whole story line caught my attention. I was amazed at what was going on in this boy’s life. This book, a true story, is very emotional. The title relates to the book because his mother calls the boy, David Pelzer, “It”. She does not call him by his real name. His mother treats him like he is nothing but an object. Also, I think the title fits well because it catches people’s attention and gives a clue what the book is about.
Dave Pelzer A child called it The Lost Boy. David Pelzer’s books, “The Child Called It” and “The Lost Boy” should be taught in high school English classes. I think most students in a high school English class are old enough and, mature enough to handle the contents of the books and to get an understanding of what David went through. At times the books are a little too detailed, but people have to understand it is something that happens in everyday life, and people cant be prejudiced towards the children.
I would recommend this book to others since it was an emotionally drawing novel. It allows people to evaluate their own lives and actually cherish all the aspects of it because a “tragedy” like this can truly happen to anyone. This book is especially interesting once someone has had an introduction to psychology since they can understand Sally's condition in depth, however the book could be enjoyable to anyone. I would also recommend this book to others because of the fact that it is non fiction and to be more empathetic to people's struggles.

A Child Called It was about the struggles of a young boy named Dave Pelzer. Dave was put through hard times and at some point lost hope in his dreams and doubted the humanity of mankind, but in the end because of his strong will he was able to overcome his problems and make a better life for himself.
The Sudanese Civil War lasted approximately twenty years and destroyed whole villages along with the lives of entire families. “They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky” tells the true story of the Sudanese civil war and the Lost Boys swallowed up by gunfire and hatred. The Lost Boys was the ‘nickname’ given to the thousands of children that were orphaned or relocated during the bloody Sudanese civil war. The Lost Boys includes Benson Deng, Alepho Deng, and Benjamin Ajak who wrote the novel provides their opinions and understandings of several political concepts. These political concepts have multiple views by the Sudanese people. When brought to comparison by the American culture the perspectives are not that different.
A Child Called "It", by Dave Pelzer, is a first person narrative of a child’s struggle through a traumatic abused childhood. The book begins with Dave telling us about his last day at his Mother’s house before he was taken away by law enforcement. At first I could not understand why he had started at the end of his tale, but after reading the entire book it was clear to me that it was easier to read it knowing there indeed was a light at the end of the dark tunnel. This horrific account of extreme abuse leaves us with a great number of questions which unfortunately we do not have answers for. It tells us what happened to this little boy and that miraculously he was able to survive and live to see the day he left this hole which was his home, however, it does not tell us why or even give us a good amount of background with which to speculate the why to this abuse.
God Grew Tired of Us appealed to me because I lacked knowledge of the Lost Boys and the Sudanese Civil War. The Lost Boys’ trek across Sudan, first to Ethiopia then to Kenya, impressed me beyond measure. I was shocked by the fact that 20,000 young boys were forced to journey so far. The amount of death and loss that those boys had to go through made their transition into American culture that much more impressive. Even though most did not know where their families were, they kept on living and trying to be successful. The few that were able to come to the United States had immense compassion and generosity for those they left behind in refugee camps. I also found striking repetitions of past events. I liked this book because it shows a part of society which is usually kept hidden. Many people think schizophrenia is just a form retardation, but this book gives you a small amount of understanding for people with this disorder.
The story opens with the boy, whom to this point had ignored his mothers coughs, drops everything to rush to her aid as she “collapsed into a little wicker armchair, holding her side”. (O’Connor 206) As he watched his mother struggle trying to light the fire he told her, “Go back to bed and Ill light the fire”. (206) Now to this point, as the reader, I am unsure of the age of the boy, but I get the impression that he is a young boy. My idea of this boy is that he tries to take on too much throughout the day and eventually it was the demise of the opposite sex that eventually caused the meltdown of the “awesome” little boy. This is certainly something that will happen again to this young lad but he has definitely learned his lesson this time.
