War is one of the worst things that can happen to any country. When gifted power, most people take it and use it to their advantage and self gain. The less fortunate struggle and develop meekness and humbleness during times of distress. With Germans taking over during the second world war, many Polish people were put at risk seeing as they were the only piece of land in between Russia and Germany, minorities and innocents were often killed and excused as collateral. With the abusing power given and the changing of war, it tends to highlight certain characteristics. War brings out the best in people because people with power abuse it and people like Antonia and her husband from the film: The Zookeeper's Wife, they helped minorities targeted …show more content…

Their animals were taken by Lutz for himself, and were therefore left with an empty zoo. The government wanted to fill the zoo with soldiers, but the Zabinska’s had a different idea. They wanted to turn it into a breeding and slaughtering ground for pigs in order to cover up their real plan: hide Jews in their house, risking the lives of the Jews and their own. At this time period, many Polish people were excusing the Jews mistreatment, as they were afraid of standing up against the government and the soldiers in fear of their lives. The Zabinska’s were different, in the way that they had lived in peace with the Jews for years. Antonina had experienced the brutality of humans in her life, seeing as her parents were killed by Russians, because of this connection, she wanted to help those who ever had to go through such horrible experiences as that and felt bad for the targeted minorities being treated harshly. She also had love and connection to many Jews, seeing as they were friends and helped them when they needed it. Because of this, when Antonina saw that they were being persecuted and their lives were being toyed with, she knew she had to help them as they would for her. She accepted children of all ages and wanted them to have a chance at happiness since she didn’t want them to feel the same amount of loneliness.
