Crow Lake is Canadian author Mary Lawson's first novel,which is narrated by Kate Morrison, the second child in the Morrison family. A serious car accident left seven-year-old Kate, her one and half year old sister, Bo, and her two older brothers, Luke and Matt, orphans. As a result of his death, Kit is forced to leave the island and her carefree lifestyle. She travels to Connecticut to find her only living relatives. Once she reaches Connecticut her persona evolves from an island girl, to hard worker, and finally to wife.

The author gives no great detail to the setting of this story. Which leads the reader to believe that one must use their own view from the text and go from there. In this case, it seemed to be in the 1920’s, simply because he speaks on the cobble stone avenue and the trucks passing by. Also the way the story is told, seems to be that era.
