Feminism, to me is that belief that everyone is treated equally, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, ability, and sexual orientation. The Wife of Bath is a feminist icon to an extent. There are some inaccurate interpretation of feminism in her character. Women of the middle ages were taught to be submissive, to follow their husband's orders, and to know their place. These are all attribute that feminist go against, and the Wife of Bath is not exception. However, there are scene in the Wife of Bath tales and prologue where she kind of goes against feminism in the fact that she treats her older, richer husbands harshly. The Wife of Bath’s tale and prologue have numerous example of how the Wife of Bath can be considered a feminist icon, to some degree, while having some misinterpretations.
For example, one of the many ways the Wife of Bath can be considered a feminist icon is that she doesn't believe in the double standard. She believed that if men are allowed to have more than one wife than she should be able to have more than one husband. The Wife of Bath even brings up things from the bible to support her claim that a women having more than one husband is not a sin.
