The Venture Smith source provides a first person account into the grueling life of enduring slavery as told by Venture Smith. Smith recounts his earliest experience of his introduction into slavery as being captured whilst in warfare. Smith also describes his processing through various owners, and recounts various and violent confrontations with certain owners, and his lack of being able to find an escape to said violence. Smith eventually tells of his being able to escape slavery, years after being forced to endure it, through his purchasing of his unjustly expensive freedom.
