When Military fathers or mothers return from military deployment, there is usually a significant amount of adjustment needed to be made. Depending on the length of stay while deployed, many families find themselves having to re-adjust to having their loved one back home again.
The VSA model describes family transitions and its adaptability as “adaptive processes, which play a central role in in the model, are the ways in which individuals and families cope with everyday hassles. They are critical to our application of the model because they moderate the associations between daily hassles and family wellbeing” (Price, Bush, & Price, 2017, p. 40). This is why the advent of Veteran’s courts is so important. Due to their service, and the effects that PTSD and other service related conditions may have on their criminal behavior, Veteran’s courts are not only an honorable way to treat our nation’s defenders, but a way in which to protect them from the negative impact of incarceration.
