The ” Unsinkable” R.M.S Titanic April 14, 1912, the Titanic set sail for a maiden voyage. Some of the people on board never thought that it would be goodbye forever. The Titanic was heading to New York City from Southampton, England. Why does the Titanic now lay at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean? Historians believe that the Titanic sank because of human error. They believe that it was Captain Smith, the lookouts in the crows nest, and Thomas Andrews fault. First, it was Captain Smith’s fault. If he wouldn’t have ignored the seven iceberg warnings from his crew and other ships the Titanic wouldn’t have sunk. Also, if he would have called for the ship to slow down this tragedy wouldn’t have happened.
This British ocean liner was one of the biggest cruise ships ever made. The ship began its maiden voyage in the early morning of April 10, 1912 from Southampton, England to New York City. Mainly the ships 2,200 passengers were of deathly upper-class families looking for a good time in the city, while a smaller amount was people going to the city to find work. Many thought that when they board the ship, they were in for the trip of a lifetime. Well, that trip soon ended in tragedy. The Titanic sank early in the morning on the 15th when the ship hit an iceberg. Captain Edward J. Smith had the ship sailing full speed ahead despite the concerns about several icebergs. The ship received multiple warnings about dangerous ice fields in the North over the telegraph. General Corfield who was in charge of warning the captain of any obstacles along the way, said he failed to pass the warning along by senior radio operator, Jack Phillips. The “unsinkable” was actually built with very sinkable cheap material. It was built with low-grade iron rivets instead of the more expensive higher-grade material rivets. However, what the Titanic claimed to be was not the case because on April 15, 1912 the Titanic hit an iceberg, broke in half, and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. There has been debate ever since that fateful day as to how this happened to the Titanic. Some conspiracy theorists believe the ship never even sank -- regardless of whether the ship remains at the bottom of the ocean. Other conspiracy theorists believe the Titanic was actually switched to the RMS Olympic because of an insurance scam.
According to the story “From Exploring the Titanic”, Captain Smith did not seem all that worried about the iceberg and brushed away most of the iceberg warnings. This caused the rest of the crew to also ignore the iceberg warnings, showing the poor communication between the crew. The article “Titanic Past and Present” also states that Smith didn’t make sure the navigation crew was aware of the ice warning and did not post the warning to the chart room. This shows that Smith was very relaxed about the iceberg and did not see it as a threat, and so by the time they realized it was a real danger, it was too late and was responsible for the sinking of the ship. The titanic was a gigantic ship. It was the biggest, newest, and advanced ship during its time. The titanic was built in Belfast with the newest and best technology. Then after its completion it would travel to New York. During the tragedy of the Titanic the engineers had a key role on saving people. Although the tragedy of the titanic was sad it taught us many lessons on preventing such a thing again. Although the titanic has sunk to the bottom of the ocean it will never be forgotten.
Thomas Andrews made several faults when designing the Titanic. Blueprints were not even made for the Titanic. He made sixteen watertight compartments and this was one of the reasons people thought it was unsinkable. But Thomas made compartments smaller than they needed to be, height wise, so that there was more room for the first class passengers. Since it was too small, the doors in the compartments were mostly open. Since they were left open five of the compartments flooded, the ship needed four flooded to stay afloat. Ismay left the ship with woman and children still on board when he could of saved other people, he ultimately decided for the Titanic to only have 20 lifeboats, and Ismay owned the company that made and designed the Titanic and all of its flaws.

His plan was to make it to New York very quickly, and didn’t want to slow down for icebergs since he hadn’t come upon any bad weather throughout that day (History). The Unsinkable Ship That Sank On the day of April 12,1912, Titanic was thought to be the dream ship that could never be destroyed. Like today’s society, the passengers were enjoying the time of their lives and thought nothing could ever happen to them because everybody thinks it’s the “unsinkable” ship, or at least that’s what everyone knew it to be. White Star Line’s Titanic was called the “Ship of dreams”. As they loaded up, many passengers of different classes and sectors of society thought that, that was the ticket to their dreams. But as time pass by from enjoying too much, little do they know that the ship is sinking.
The salty sea air rolling over the lapping waves pushes the vessel through the different ports and storms of its history and further into the uncharted water of the future. This icon of a seafaring ship metaphorically represents the Island of Taiwan and the creation and survival of its unique culture as it has sailed through the different storms of colonization, oppression and war of its history. Just as a storm leaves scares on a ship, Taiwan's turbulent history has left marks on the Taiwanese culture. Along with the marks from its storms, the peaceful times of Taiwan's history have brought major developments in infrastructure, modernization and an intermingling of different cultures just as a ship docked at a foreign port brings new items and influences on board. Though these times of Taiwan's past has defined its culture, Taiwan never remained at a port indefinitely or sank under the weight of a storm but continued sailing towards its future. Truly living up to its wartime reputation as the unsinkable ship proven not only militarily, but also as a unique and enduring culture.
The entire room was color coordinated from the wallpaper to the bedspread to the thick carpet, it also included a writing desk, dressing table with a mirror, a wardrobe and a washing stand with two sinks. There was also a sitting area with a small table and chairs at the foot of the bed there was a bedside heater. The small table was frequently used for the snack brought by the bedroom steward. The snack contained things like, hot chocolate, biscuits and fruit.
As the water flooded into the first five compartments, the water would pass the water line. Once it passed the water line, the water would start to flood into the rest of the compartments like falling dominos. Since one-half of the ship kept flooding in with water, the water would slowly start to break the ship in half. Once one-half of the ship went under the other half that was floating above the water would snap and break off. Thus separating the Titanic into two pieces laying at the sea floor. The Titanic would ultimately sink on April 15, 1912. With the ship sinking, there are three factors on why the Titanic sank. The three factors are human error, corporate negligence, and design error. The three factors are equally responsible on why the ship sank.
Have you ever heard about the Titanic, or who was responsible for the sinking of the Titanic? The Titanic was one of the biggest known sea disaster ever. Today there are so many safety regulations on ships that it could happen again, but if it did mostly everybody will survive. My opinion is that Captain Smith is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic for many reasons, and that he felt nonchalance about many of them. Although there are people that think Jack Phillips was the person responsible for the sinking of the Titanic because he ignored multiple iceberg warnings.

After three years in construction, starting on March 31st 1909, the $400,000,000, 11 storeys high, glossy black ship set sail. 2,228 people were on board; 1,343 people were passengers and the other 885 were crew members. Little did they know that less than half of those deprived, vulnerable souls would arrive in America alive, and the vast majority would never see their loved and cherished ones again.
