The Truman Show follows Truman Burbank, who is the main character in a hugely popular 24-hour a day television show based on his life, yet it is completely unaware that he’s the star. Truman lives a life controlled by the television giants and maintained by the actors around him while the world watches on. Truman has a good job, a nice wife, and basically a happy life in a small town called Seahaven, but his family and friends are all actors, his home town is a giant set piece.
The opening scene consists of the Truman show being introduced by people, telling us about how they are impacted or how they feel about The Truman Show. They say for many it is like a way of life which raises our expectations of the show. The scene I chose to analyze …show more content…

The scene is important because it marks the stage when Truman completely cracks, he goes crazy and becomes determined to uncover the reality of life. Prior to this scene Truman experiences many odd occurrences, the first one was when a set light accidently falls down and lands outside Truman’s house. Truman becomes confused and doesn’t understand how such a thing has fallen from the sky, however he brushes it off quickly and continues on his way to work. The second time, Truman is driving to work and the radio signal cuts off, instead the radio switches to the directors monitoring Truman’s whereabouts. Truman hears he is making his turn onto Lancaster Place, and realizes that is exactly what he is doing leaving him completely perplexed. The Truman show set in the late 1950’s on an island called Seahaven on the sunny morning of a weekday. Truman changes his usual routine that morning and instead of going into his office building he chooses a different one. The inside of the random office building looks completely normal, but as the elevator comes into view, it is clear something bad is going to happen. In this scene there are several visuals that look odd to the viewers, the roads in the town square look obviously fake, the neighborhood looks neat and symmetrical and the elevator looks almost like cardboard, these things seem odd to viewers but seem completely normal to Truman because he has never known the difference. The director has done this on purpose to show Truman’s innocence and make the viewer’s feel compassion. The facial expressions and body language of the security guards and the two women, one that goes up the lift before Truman and the other in the lift with him, when Truman shows the up indicate that they are surprised by Truman’s unexpected visit, were unsuspecting and caught off guard, the actors looked panicked but try to stay in character and act normal, this makes the viewer’s fell tension. The visual of Truman being carried out by the guards is a vital image. Truman expresses multiple emotions in the shot, he is shocked, confused and outraged, this makes the viewer’s seem sympathy for him, and the director purposely presents the film so that
