The play focuses on the twins Viola and Sebastian as they separate due to a shipwreck and must meet again in the land of Illyria. After being separated by the shipwreck, both twins believe the other is dead and they begin to strategize their new way of living. Viola dresses as her twin brother Sebastian to work under the Duke of Illyria Orsino using her new disguise as Cesario. Sebastian after being saved by the sea captain Antonio explores Illyria with hopes of finding his twin sister. Viola’s new job working for Orsino is to persuade Countess Olivia to marry Orsino.
However, after asking Olivia to accept Orsino’s marriage proposal, Olivia falls in love with the disguised Viola. Drahos used for the modernized version of twelfth night kept the language of Shakespeare. Furthermore, Dr. Drahos used clarification of some old words to be defined during the play as an extra bit of comedy or understanding for the viewers. Dr. Drahos concept of Twelfth Night was very dramatic, humorous and loving. With the use of the 60s to the 70s theme of love he beneficially included many lights and props to convey the feeling of love, drama and comedy. Also the individual performances of the actors were astonishing as every cast member was unafraid to speak and complete physical movements. Many of the actors brought their characters to life, but one particular character that stood out was the actor who played Malvolio. The actor who played Malvolio was very accurate in playing a head servant that many of the other characters would not like and also made the viewer’s scared or overwhelmed every time the character came back to the stage. The one thing that stood out to me about the character was when the character puts emphasis on his words to show disgust or to belittle another
