Intended audience: The intended audience is current parents, future parents and anyone else that could be interested in the solution to end childhood obesity.

David S. Ludwig (2010) warms of the severity of the childhood obesity issue and goes to explain that the “environmental factors” are promoting the unhealthy lifestyle. He also states and believes that there should be more regulation when it comes to unhealthy foods being marketed towards children. Parents are actually receiving false information about the food they are giving to children, while in their mind, they are doing the right thing. Ludwig also points out that the government is supporting processed foods and farm subsides. He says, “we shouldn’t be making high-calorie poor quality foods even cheaper than they already are” (Ludwig,2010). A better suggestion Ludwig thought of is, if subsides should exist, they should be make natural whole foods like fruits and vegetables cheaper. This would greatly benefit low income families. The healthier food being cheaper, parents would be able to purchase more. He also suggests that when children watch their parents eating unhealthy foods, it turns into bad habits for them. Additionally, Ludwig really emphasizes that more physical activity is needed, “ We need to make physical activities fun again” (Ludgwig 2010). Children are suppose to go outside and play, rather than go to a gym and exercise. Since sport programs and physical education programs are slowing diminishing because of budgets, it is the parent’s responsibility to encourage their children to be active and play.
