Throughout The Truth About Leadership; The No-Fads, Heart-of-the-Matter Facts You Need to Know by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Poser, they discuss the ten truths in regards to leadership and how they impact an individual to become an effective leader. These truths are concepts that can be actively applied to current organizations. By applying these truths to an individual’s organization, it can improve the leadership quality from within and as a whole. Besides the application to an organization, the ten truths compiled by Kouzes and Poser can be used to improve yourself and your leadership skills, whether it be in your personal life or career.

This truth explains that individuals and groups are held together by trust, and trust is needed in order to succeed. The seventh truth from the authors is that challenges lead to greatness. Challenges provide an opportunity to individuals to grow and become confident in attempting something out of their comfort zone. Truth number eight is that an individual leads by example or doesn’t lead at all whereas truth number nine explains how the best leaders are the best learners. The tenth truth is that leadership is an affair of the heart. The last truth listed by the authors explain how effective leaders are in love with leading and with what they are trying to accomplish.
The organization that I belong to is a skilled nursing facility that specializes in short term rehabilitation and long term care. Leadership is an important trait to have in this kind of an organization because we are dealing with providing care to individuals and need to be able to lead others when providing care. Out of the ten truths of leadership, a couple of key truths could be implemented within this organization.
