By this point in the story, the repercussions of Jonathon Harker’s visit to Transylvania and his over extended stay with count Dracula has had a mysterious effect on many of the other characters and the plots throughout the continuation of the text. Seward’s diary symbolizes love to me. I feel that Seward shares a love for Lucy that is corresponding with the love that Mina has for Jonathon and the love Dracula also has for Jonathon. I believe that a main theme that is starting to form in the midsection of the story is how love can affect the characters. Lucy must be a very beautiful woman or must have some very attractive trait because many men are lined up, in an attempt to court her. Van Helsing, Holmwood, Seward, and Morris are all very …show more content…

I believe the characters have revolved throughout the last 10 chapters. Mina, Dr. Van Helsing, Dr. Holmwood, and Jonathon are all able to examine the situation of the deathly boxes and make it their own. The boxes that Stoker mention’s symbolizes the areas of evil that could be and are experienced in the world. I think he was trying to hint that there is evil everywhere in the world and that we as people must do our best to avoid it while also having the obligation to turn other people from evil situations. I feel a strong a sense of courage in this chapter because of the actions and words of Mina. She pledges to fight the evil and torture Dracula is spreading no matter that cost; laying down her life if needed. I continue to see hints of religious attributes in this latter portion of this novel. I feel as if mina especially is attempting to martyrize herself in these chapters. I believe the downfall with the character of Dracula allies in the pathologies that surround his victims. The references made by Mina about knowing Dracula’s whereabouts because of telepathy leads me to believe that with every attack leaves a the feelings, emotions and endeavors of Dracula embedded in the victim. To think about it I realized, ever since Jonathon and Mina’s encounter with Dracula they have always been one step ahead of the other characters in the …show more content…

I feel as if Van Helsing has changed his perception of mina slightly from a doctor-patient relationship to more of a father-daughter relationship. The way he sticks by her side guiding her along the path is very emotionally touching and shows he patriarchal figure. The fear strikes me as the ominous voluptuous women from early on the story return with evil intentions. The overpowering by Dracula’s supposed spirit and the sudden death of these women lead me to confirm sexualized beliefs from earlier in the chapter. With Mina already victimized by Dracula, I believe the women were sent to tempt Van Helsing into succumbing to their sexuality. The death marks the actions of Dracula attempting to corral competition for his sexual interests, proving his homosexuality respectfully. Shifting the scene, upon Mina and Van Helsing approaching the castle, the attack and murder of Dracula by Jonathon and Morris shows the true triumphant defeat of evil. I believe this parallels the real world. Even though evil and sadness is shed on many events in this life, somehow the goodness always shines through. I think this was symbolism of a higher power, by allowing the villain to die, restoring the
