With the Industrial Revolution in affect, raw materials became one of the most important keys to being successful. While working to collect these raw materials, workers faced many hardships. Some of these hardships included: long hours, dangerous machines, and bad environments. However in many ways the working-class continued to think of this time as a time full of opportunities. As you can see there were many ups and downs of working to get raw materials and making them into products. Many people saw the Industrial Revolution as a time full of opportunities. With more jobs being created and prices becoming more affordable. One of the most important things was cheaper prices. Workers often experienced cruel bosses, low wages, long hours, and bad environments. According to a father from the time of the revolution, his children were beaten and overworked. The father states, ¨My little girl came home the other day cruelly beaten… That man's name is Blagg; he is always strapping the children¨ (Student Resources in Context). This shows how cruel people treated the workers. Along with this, workers often had to work long hours with low pay. To prove, ¨Children were paid less than 10 cents an hour for fourteen hour days of work¨ (Working and Living Conditions). Lastly, workers were put in terrible conditions. It is stated, ¨The only light present was the sunlight that came through the windows. Machines spit out smoke and in some factories, workers came out covered in black soot by the end of the day.
