“Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind”-John Fitzgerald kennedy to the UN general assembly, sept. 25,1961. This quote explains how war will be the end to everything on earth if not stopped. This is connected to “the sniper” because war tears family and friends apart can also ruin the earth and make the earth uninhabitable to live on. The central idea is that war can tear people apart. A similarity for “The sniper” and “ the man he killed” is they both had to kill. In “The sniper” he had to kill the enemy or the enemy would kill him(O’flaherty,208).This is the same for “the man he killed” “I shot him dead because- because he was my foe.”(Hardly). But the stories also have different aspects like in “The sniper” he killed his brother “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother’s face” (O’flaherty,208). But in “The man he killed” he killed a stranger “I shot at him as he at me and killed him in his place”(hardly,7-9). These are ways that “The sniper”and “ The man he killed” are similar and different aspects of the plot. A Similarity for both the works is that if not for war they could have been friends.
