The single bullet theory was started by the Warren commision. It was where one bullet killed both Kennedy and the Governor that was in front of him. This bullet according to the warren commission was fired by Lee Harvey Oswald. The trajectory of the bullet passed through Kennedy’s neck and went into the governor's chest and embedded the bullet in the governor’s thigh. In this paper I will go over the single bullet theory.

The Warren Commission that investigated the Kennedy assassination established that the reactions of Kennedy and Connally happened too close together for two single shots, even from the same gun, to have been accountable for their injuries. In 1976, the US Senate ordered a fresh inquiry into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, who was murdered in 1963 during a motorcade in Dallas, Texas while campaigning for re-election. People who had been involved in the original Warren Commission investigations were asked to make fresh statements. The FBI and the CIA were persuaded to release more of their documents on Oswald. New lines of inquiry were opened and individuals who had not previously given evidence were persuaded to come forward. Most important of all, pieces of evidence such as photos and sound recordings were subjected to scientific analysis using the most up-to-date methods and equipment. The House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) completed their investigation in 1979 and they finally came to a discrete verdict that Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots at Kennedy, one of which killed the president. A fourth shot was fired from the grassy knoll, which was contradictory to the statement printed by the Warren Commission 16 years earlier. They concluded that John Kennedy was assassinated as the result of a conspiracy.
On 22 November 1963, President John F Kennedy was shot dead as he took part in a motorcade through the streets of Dallas, Texas. Soon afterwards a man named Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and accused of having shot Kennedy from the sixth floor of the Texas school Depository building . Even though Oswald refused to co-operate and denied all knowledge of the assassination, he was formerly charged the next day, on the 23 November. However, he never stood trial as just two days later Oswald himself was shot dead by Jack Ruby, a Dallas night club owner, as he was being taken from police headquarters to court. As Jack Ruby went to prison and the police had no longer a suspect to question, President Lyndon Baines Johnson, set up a committee led by chief justice Earl Warren, to conduct an official investigation into Kennedy's murder. They were under immense pressure by the public to come up with a conclusion. On 24 September 1964, the Warren Commission finally issued a report of their findings. They concluded that President Kennedy was murdered by a single gunmen, Lee Harvey Oswald. There were numerous reasons why the Warren Commission came to this conclusion, varying from Oswalds background and most predominantly the hard evidence there was against him. In fact, there was a substantial amount of evidence that linked Oswald to the murder weapon and the crime scene which, undoubtedly helped a great deal in his conviction. The main evidence against Oswald was a unique Mannlicher-Carcano rifle, which was recovered on the sixth floor of the school depository building and had allegedly been used for the shooting. Witnesses claimed that three shots had been fired. Three spent cartridges were found alongside the rifle. Ballistics proved that the fragments from two bullets that were recovered from the Presidents limousine and from the wounds of Kennedy and Governor Connally, came from the same unusual type of rifle, made in Italy during the Second World War. Forsenic evidence also linked Oswald to the weapon. Fibres found on the rifles stock matched those on a shirt Oswald was wearing when he was arrested. Oswalds palm prints were also found on the underside of the gun barrel. His prints were found on a part of the rifle that was exposed only when it was taken to pieces.
On the 22nd of November 1963, the 35th president of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with the crime, but was shot and killed two days later by Jack Ruby before he could be taken to trial. The Warren Commission officially determined that Oswald was the lone assassin, however, this conclusion has not been accepted by many. In fact, a 2003 poll reported that 75% of Americans do not believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Most believe that the assassination was the result of a conspiracy, though these same polls also show that there is no agreement on who else might have been involved. Most put forward the idea of involved parties such as Castro supporters, the Mafia, and the U.S Government.
The assassination of John F. Kennedy is said to be, as from the Warren report, a murder. The Warren report states that a man, Lee Harvey Oswald, fired 3 shots from the 6th floor of the Texas Book State Depository building. One missed the President’s motorcade completely; another hit President Kennedy in the neck, and the last hit him in the head, which was later said after an autopsy, to be the cause of death.
A major part to the Warren Commission’s theory was the three bullet idea, in which the first bullet supposedly passed through Kennedy’s neck and then caused Governor Connally’s three wounds in the chest, wrist and thigh. The bullet that did this damage, often referred to as the “magic” bullet, was later found on Connally’s stretcher, with no trace of blood and almost fully in tact. Attempts that have been made to recreate this situation have proved that it was almost impossible that the bullet could have, firstly, changed direction so many times to make Kennedy and Connally’s wounds and, secondly, remained so undamaged after passing through blood, bone and human tissue. The Zapruder film of the assassination also shows that there were two seconds between Kennedy and Connally being hit, indicating that they were struck by two different bullets. By forensically reconstructing the fracture patterns of his skull, current investigators were able to determine that they radiated out from a single point and that the pressure of the brain matter against the front of the skull caused the fractures perpendicular to the radii. In fact, everything from a forensic standpoint supports the “lone gunman” theory; that Oswald acted alone during the assassination.
On a warm, sunny November day in Dallas, Texas, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated through what still remains to be a mystery. President Kennedy’s motorcade rode through the Dealey Plaza at 12:30 pm when three shots were fired from Lee Harvey Oswald in a Depository building, severely injuring President Kennedy and wounding Governor Connally. President Kennedy was transported to Dallas Parkland Hospital, where he was pronounced officially dead thirty minutes later. The cold hand of Lee Harvey Oswald also murdered Officer J.D. Tippit because Officer Tippit recognized Oswald. Oswald was eventually arrested by Dallas police and brought to a more secure Dallas jail.

Although the official report states that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone 61% of Americans believe there was a conspiracy behind the death of President Kennedy. One of the theories is that the CIA conspired to kill President Kennedy because they withheld documents, had personnel in the area on the day President Kennedy was shot, and Oswald may have been part of the CIA.
The doctors who examined Kennedy proved that a bullet entered from the front of the limo, which means that there was another gunman. Governor Connally was sure that he was shot in the back after President Kennedy had already been wounded (Findings). In the Zapruder film, Connally reacts to the back wound after Kennedy reacts to the throat wound. The trajectory of the bullet that supposedly penetrated Kennedy's neck and Connally's torso is a criticism of the single-bullet theory. The bullet would have to change course in mid-air, in order to hit both Connally and Kennedy. Also, Kennedy's back wound was located lower than his throat wound. Therefore, both wounds could not have caused by only one shot from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. It was impossible for Oswald to have fired three shots in 6.3 seconds According to a test conducted by expert marksmen the Italian Army, they were unable to fire three shots in less than nineteen seconds, using the same replica of the gun (Washington, Tim Shipman
