I believe my introduction meets the exceptional criteria because my introduction grabs the reader’s attention creatively. I have a good thesis statement that explains what I am going to talk about in the other body paragraphs.
My first body paragraph is proficient and exceptional because it contains the criteria for both exceptional and proficient. It was exceptional because I had a good transition and I described what Shrek and Odysseus’ homes meant to them. However, I think it was average and I didn’t go above and beyond.

Heroes and their stories have been at the center of almost every culture throughout history. There are vast differences among these legends since they have to serve each particular culture's needs. The events, settings and other characters may change dramatically, but the hero is basically the same for all. And the understanding that the use of violence is always justified in the name of the `Gods'.

Humans have always enjoyed great stories and storytellers; the ancient Greeks were no different. However, oral tradition can encompass and convey much more than stories. It can reveal an identity, motivation or persuade an audience. For the Ancient Greeks, stories take on the additional role as the sharing and spreading of information. So, while it is enjoyable to hear tales of adventure, oral tradition has practical uses too.

Hubris, or excessive human pride, is most detested by the gods and likewise is most punishable by them. The Odyssey is a story about Odysseus and Telemachus, two heroes who throughout their adventures meet new people and face death many times. Telemachus goes to find his father after he learns from Athena that he is still alive. The two meet, and Odysseus attempts to go back to Ithaca after he was lost at sea, and on his way there becomes one of the most heroic characters in literature as we know it. James Wyatt Cook, a historian and an expert on The Odyssey, wrote about how hubris can affect the characters that display it. Heroes emotional state can hinder the effects of their heroic characteristics, which in turn will manipulate their self-confidence. Every hero shares similar and different emotional tragedies, but these poignant feelings can turn heroes into epic legends. These influential heroes, such as Odysseus, Aeneas, and Antigone were faced with emotional defeat, but they evolved their heroic characteristic traits through their mental challenges. Emotional qualities not only built these stories, but built these heroes. While these poetic stories differ, each of these heroes were cultivated by their personal emotional events in their lives.
In the 9th book of The Odyssey by Greek Writer Homer, you meet the great and terrible cyclops, Polyphemus. Between the interactions of Odysseus and Polyphemus you can see some of the ways both characters break the rules of hospitality. Both characters act in ways that would be frowned upon today, as well as, back in the time of the Greeks.

Can two things ever truly be exactly the same? When it comes to epic heroes, I’m not sure. In both the Iliad and the Odyssey, written by Homer and translated by Robert Fagles, the journey of two epic heroes are depicted for us. Achilles, hero of the book The Iliad, is fighting in the Trojan War. Odysseus, hero of the book The Odyssey, is simply fighting to get home. Although both the epic heroes are put through some of the same very tough and difficult situations, it doesn’t mean they are quite the same person. An analysis of The Iliad and The Odyssey will show three similarities and three differences between Achilles and Odysseus.
