Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. Popularly known as Joe Biden is the 114th senate president. Biden, who sits in the senate with a Democratic Party ticket, has for 36 years has been a senator for Claymont, Delaware a state in Mayfield where his family moved into when Joe was of the age of 13 years. He late obtained a degree in law at Delaware University and the Law School of Syracuse. A standout amongst the most fascinating peculiarities about the Senate, however, is that it generally has a considerably number of individuals, on account of that two for each state principle. Thus in principle, there's dependably a possibility of a tie. A law can't turn into a law unless it passes through both Congress and ultimately the president. John Adams the 1st senate president, who was George Washington president, presided over 29 tie break incidence that took place in the senate during his tenure. Since the earlier constitution restricted the role of the john Adams to only being a tie breaker and not to participate in any senate debate. The current senate the president of the senate has continually advocated for sensitive matters that transpire in the nation as he has been a long-term advocate against rape and abusive behavior at home, Joe …show more content…

The idea of a Triple E senate did not come into play until the legislation was passed under Pierre Trudeau about the National Energy Program (NEP) due to the energy crisis the 1970s. This was a welcome change for the eastern provinces, but created tension from Alberta with its natural resources, and became unpopular in the whole of western Canada, creating the idea of ‘western alienation.’ (Canada needs triple e reform, 2013) With the NEP, Alberta began to quickly call for changes in the federal government for more regional issues to have a better platform in federal government, finally proposing Triple E Senate. A year later polls such as the Gallip Poll in 1986 were used to show the popularity of the idea of senate reform, with support from

The Constitution gives powers to Congress in order to execute its many responsibilities. These responsibilities are necessary and proper for carrying out its policies such as, imposing taxes and regulating interstate commerce. The constitution has 435 members in the House and 100 more in Senate. Congress faces issues with action problems and the solution to correcting these collective problems are at the expense of the incentive members. The Cabinet, President, state and federal courts, political groups, media, etc. all have input when determining a political decision in the United States. Open arrangement is an objective arranged strategy that the legislature follows in managing an issue or issue in the nation. Open approaches are focused around law; however numerous individuals other than officials set them. People, gatherings, and even government organizations that don 't follow strategies can be punished. This confounded procedure has been concluded with an anticipated arrangement of steps.

Roger F. Wicker was elected to the United States Senate on November 4, 2008, and currently serves with Senator Thad Cochran representing the state of Mississippi (www.senate.gov). Each state always has two senators in the Senate regardless of its population size. Since there are fifty states that means there are one hundred senators currently serving in the Senate. Out of the one hundred senators, one-third of them come up for election every two years, because the terms are staggered. The interesting fact about the Senate seats is that senators who seek re-election usually win with a ninety percent success rate (www.wikipedia.com). The United States Senate has the responsibility to advise and consent to the President's government appointments, it must ratify all treaties with foreign governments, it tries all impeachments, and elects the Vice President in the event that no one gets a majority of the electoral votes in an election. Senators are elected to represent the state from which they are elected. They are assigned to serve on committees and review bills or proposed laws. Senator Wicker currently serves on five committees. Most of Senator Wicker’s policies that he sponsors centers on creating jobs, reducing spending, limiting federal overreach, and maintaining a strong nation...
In perhaps one of the most iconic films featuring the United States Senate, the naïve Washington outsider, Jefferson Smith, finds himself pitted against political graft and special interests from his first day as U.S. Senator. Out of options and fully opposed, Mr. Smith is forced to utilize the filibuster until complete exhaustion in order to convince unsympathetic Senators of his principle, as well the standards that the Senate should operate under. This classic film, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, highlights many aspects of the Senate, most especially the merit of the filibuster in aiding in the protection of the little guy, the minority. Yet the filibuster throughout American history has evolved from this early notion of minority protection into a political gambit used by Senators to actually oppose debate. “The practice has gotten out of hand, leaving bills gridlocked in an oft-feuding Senate and stalling important votes for purely partisan gain” (TimeRe). The need for reform, constitutional reform, is evident by evaluating the essence of the problem itself. The problem, best understood in context to the filibuster’s historical development and the structural differences between the two chambers of congress, accentuates the need for reform, not abolishment of this extra-constitutional development. The filibuster has merit, but by introducing a constitutional amendment to make this senatorial policy more efficient and privy to democracy, the consequences prove to be overwhelming positive. As will be articulated below, a shifting cloture rule, as well as debate limitations will provide the ideal solution to what has become a growing, debilitating problem.

How the legislature is organized is very important to the actual processes of making laws. Seniority is not important at the state level, but the division of power between majority and minority parties is. The speaker of the House is the presiding officer, and is chosen by vote of the whole House. In reality, it is the m...

In 6 short years, Johnson evolved from a newly elected senator to the most powerful man in the Senate. (Unger, 180) This swift ascension was unprecedented and mesmerizing and Johnson's path there is arguable as important as his presidency. Both books use Johnson's qu...
As seen quite often in the Obama administration, legislation gets stuck and lost in Congress due to the polarization of the parties in recent years. In Obama’s case, he has frequently threatened to go around the House and Senate if they could not reach an agreement or would shoot down his plans. Cato’s Pilon points out, however, that the hurdles of Congress are no mistake. Pilot states that the framer’s of the Constitution knew what they were doing, and this was intended to keep the checks and balances as well as accountability to the public (Lyons,
