“Everything is about social class in England, whether it’s upper, lower, or middle. Why should that be?” This quote was said by Francesca Annis, actress from England. And my reply to this quote would be, it is very true. In the real world of ours, no matter what generation, there’s going to be the poor, average people, and the wealthy. The reason I chose this quote for my intro is because it has everything to do with my essay on the story I read. The story I read was The Semplica Girl’s Diaries. It basically shows characteristics of wealth, greed, sorrow, and etc. for social class. The three social classes we read were the obvious lifestyle we live in which is the poor, middle-class, and rich. In the story, there are characters that symbolize …show more content…

The Semplica Girls who show traits of willing to do anything to gain income is a sign of weakness but they accept it. They would sell their bodies in order to gain what they need for their own families. The narrator wis willing to do anything too but sell his own body like the Semplica Girls who had no shame. They’re both willing to make sacrifices for their family. The narratore spent excessive amounts of money on his daughters to ensure that they had comfortable lives. Was it by choice? Yes and no. They probably just couldn’t find the best answer to provide for their family. Luckily, the narrator got lucky money from the lottery but his ego got in the way and he spends it on wants instead of needs for his family. He just wanted to be a showoff and gain as much success as possible in this tough world. In the story, the narrator states: When will I have sufficient leisure/wealth to sit on hay bale watching moon rise, while in luxurious mansion family sleeps? At that time, will have chance to reflect deeply on meaning of life, etc., etc. Have a feeling and have always had a feeling that this and other good things will happen for …show more content…

In my opinion about social class in the story and in real life is that no matter what you do, something good and something bad is going to happen no matter if you are poor, middle, or rich. When I read and understood that the neighbors are the rich people who don’t care, the narrator and his family are the middle class who are jealous, and the Semplica Girls who are poor and willing to do anything as much as possible to provide for their family, I learn that no one has the same mindset as each other. In life, there are wants and needs in the social lifestyle. That’s why when it’s the end of the world, no one isn’t going to care who’s richer. They will care who has the most supplies and resources out there. Also I believe it is the people who you know and related to that enables wealth. To get somewhere big in life, you basically need to network and sadly that’s reality. I hate to admit but I gain hope I can be successful as the rich in my life by doing it on my own. So I consider myself as the neighbor more. I just want to succeed without anyone’s opinion affecting my life, no matter what social class I am
