There are two famous sayings,”With great power comes great responsibility,” and “Knowledge is power.” If you combine these two sayings, you get, “With great knowledge comes great responsibility.” Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, views this as a rule: “A creator has a great responsibility to his creation.” People should not feel as if they have to follow this rule, they should feel an obligation to follow this rule. A basic human right is for a creation is nurtured by its creator because no one should have to learn life without the support of their guardian. In the latest meeting between Victor and the creation, Victor starts work on a female companion for the creation, but changes his tune and tears up his work on the female creation. This causes a confrontation between Victor and the creation, ending with the creation threatening Victor. Victor relives the argument in his mind,”I shuddered to think who might be the next to be sacrificed to his insatiate revenge. And then I thought of his words,’I will be with you on your wedding night’”(141). Victor first worries about those close to him and what may happen to them at the hands of the creation, but he suddenly envisions himself as the next victim, on the night of his wedding. Shelley uses the term “sacrifice” to describe the murders committed by the creation,”I shuddered to think who might be next to be sacrificed to his insatiate revenge”(141). The definition of sacrifice is: the act of slaughtering an animal or a person as an offering to g-d or to a divine or supernatural figure. Shelley suggests the creature’s sacrifices may have been an attempt to make peace with himself. Shelley shows that in order for the creation to end his insatiable or never ending revenge, he must first make peace with himself and he cannot make
